How much percentage is third year worth in Uni of Southampton?

Studying English and Philosophy BA undergrad. Thanks!
Look at your programme specification. Your department should be able to provide it, and as I recall they publish them all on the individual prospectus pages on the website anyway too!

Never been there, but I'd imagine it's similar to the 25/75 rule, the 30/70 or maybe perhaps a 40/60 rule (the second year contributing to 25%, 30% or 40% of your degree, and the 75%, 70% and 60% being the final year work that makes up the highest percentage ratio).
So the final year of University will always take major precedence over what you got overall in the second year, that's if you go to a University where the first year doesn't contribute towards your degree grade.

If you go to a University where the first year does count towards your final grade, then I have no idea.

Ask your subject school, or the head of subject department. They'll know.

Thanks. I've had a look on the programme spec for my degree and it doesn't specify what the weightings are, only module credits. Strange.

Looks like they hide it in the calendar - https://www.southampton.ac.uk/~assets/doc/calendar/Progression,%20Determination%20and%20Classification%20of%20Results%20-%20Undergraduate%20and%20Integrated%20Masters%20Programmes.pdf

its 0:1:2 for 1st year/2nd year/3rd year for 3 year courses it seems

Hi!

As for most undergraduate degree programs, Philosophy and English is weighted 0:1:2. This means your first year grade will not count towards your final classification, second year will be worth 33% and third year will be worth 66%.

There is document with a full breakdown of degree classification called 'Progression, Determination and Classification of Results' if you want to find out more!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions!

Hi @kat025888,

Most 3-year courses will follow this 0:1:2 ratio for weightings with the first year never counting towards your final grade at Southampton. A 4-year intergrated masters course is normally weighted with a 0:1:1:2 ratio.

hope this helps
