Promissory estoppel used as an offence

Is there a case where promissory estoppel had been used as a cause of action?

I know estoppel is a form of a shield not a sword, but I need a counter point to this for my essay.

Thanks.
`What is the essay question and what are you arguing?

Evenden v Guildford Football Club, an ex-employee brings an industrial suit against an employer holding them to a promise relating to a contract of employment. This case was heard by Denning so presumably that's good argument.

Mark Thompson writes on estoppel - which you can find on Jstor.
