No, they aren’t very good with disabled students. Staff members do not accommodate or tailor to the autistic students needs. They push their own ideals and experiences, completely forgetting that they’re different to us. The LSC has stopped replying to me, and the SSGT has no real level of expertise or care towards her students. Currently in my second year and considering transferring to a different university.

I’ve read on their website that Brighton has help in place for disabled students who need support with things like organisation, time keeping, etc. and I was wondering if any of you have, or know someone who has taken advantage of available support and whether they actually help you or whether it’s just a thing they say to look good. Thanks.

Hi @Arminarmoutt !
I'm not sure that this will still be helpful however I'm a current student at Brighton.
I'm not diagnosed with Autism but I do have Dyspraxia and that shares a lot symptoms with Autism.

I have found that the Uni is pretty good with disabilities, Once I enrolled I was able to request a Learning support plan. I had a teams call with someone that works in the Disability and Dyslexia team and they were able to let me know what options were available for accommodations and set it all up for me.

I also applied for the Disabled Students Allowance where I was offered a study support tutor. This tutor is someone who you meet with once or twice a week to help you with things like organisation and managing your studies. I found them really helpful in my first year especially with the transition to independent studies.

This is just my experience, everyone has different needs but I'm pretty happy with the support I've received.

I hope this helps!
