What is an EDU in relationship to a hospital?

Hi, just found out one of my friends is in hospital, so I'm writing a letter to her, and the address beings EDU, which makes me assume the U is for unit... any idea what the other two could be?

I'm not sure whats up with her, but she's told me its not serious, but im pretty worried as shes obviously going to be there for a bit if that's where her address is at the minute! :frown:

Help would be appreciated guys

Could be an Eating Disorder Unit? Is it quite a big hospital?

That seems to come up quite a bit when I google EDU. But it could be wrong. Hope your friend is ok soon though.

She's always been really small and skinny, but I assumed it was just she was extremley petite, shes a lovely girl, just hope she's ok. From what I know, it's pretty big yes.

I know it's easy to say, but try not to worry. Just offer her lots of support and show you care - talk about normal things, don't talk about weight/the ED. Hope she manages.
Yeah and eating disorder unit, depends on the TYPE of hospital it is though

Yeah, I've written her a letter just rambling about normal things and saying she's ok, I've enclosed a note saying as I can't include grapes/flowers in the envelope then she could have a day out and a meal with me if she wanted when she's well? Do you reckon I should take that out as it might seem unsensitive? :s-smilie:

Not entirely sure what type of hospital it is, it's the name of the area followed by Royal Hospital...

in which area? eg...derby royal hospital?

i mean some places are mental health hospitals, childrens hospitals..etc etc

but, it does sound like an eating disorder, especially if they're taking post- only really happens to long term patients like that, as in most general wards they try and get patients out ASAP due to infection control etc

Hmm, I would post the area but I don't paticularly want to post my whereabouts on the net! From what I've heard is quite a large general type of hospital, not entirely sure though.

Bit of a bugger, I really hope she's ok, but she's in the best of hands. Also explains why she's not wanted to go into details as to what it's about.

It's OK thanks, it looks like what people have suggested here is that it is most likely to be an Eating Disorder Unit, and hopefully she'll tell me herself soon enough anyways! Thanks anyways though
The only EDU acronym I know of is as mentioned.

''Yeah, I've written her a letter just rambling about normal things and saying she's ok, I've enclosed a note saying as I can't include grapes/flowers in the envelope then she could have a day out and a meal with me if she wanted when she's well? Doesn't seem insensitive but I don't know how she'd take it, maybe just say something like it'd be nice to do something fun together when she gets better?

Yeah, I figured myself that she's sensible enough not to get upset about it or anything, and I'd already sellotaped the envelope shut and stamped it! It's in the post now, so I guess I shall await her reply to see how she is! Thanks for the help.
