Enough Experience To Get A Job At 18?

Hi, considering jobs that normally require a bit of experience, like those in the IT sector, is it possible to get one after leaving school at 18? Many companies have 'junior []' of certain jobs, with relatively little experience actually wanted, and generally they just list skills. If one gained these skills and got experience with internships and such, as well as other things (e.g. working with open source software), and then matched the criteria, would you be able to apply for the job?
Say you had a portfolio or something for UX design even, obviously most of these companies may want older people (as most of the younger ones will be in grad jobs), but say you matched a junior job at 18 would it be possible? Or would they just disregard you?
Thanks!

Hi there. If you think you have the required skills for a job there is no harm in applying. If you get to interview then that is a time to sell your passion and desire to learn. Have you also considered an apprenticeship? Although the starting salary is low, you will get trained while being paid and this will put you in a good position to apply for jobs once the apprenticeship is finished. Most companies will find a permanent job for good apprentices that they have trained too. Good luck mate
