UCL biomedical science as 5th choice

Hi, I’m an international y12 student. I would like to apply to medical schools in the uk, but haven’t quite decided what to put as my 5th choice yet. I’m considering UCL biomedical science, and I have a few questions regarding that:
- will I get rejected for being a medicine applicant that didn’t apply to ucl’s medical school?
- if so, would applied medical science be a better choice?
I know it may sound ambitious for me to put ucl as my backup, but since I’m an international applicant, I always have the choice to complete my education at home. If my ucas offer isn’t a good one, I don’t want it, but still I don’t wanna waste my ucas choices

It’d be really nice for you to leave a reply, have a nice day:smile:

Hi there,
You won't get rejected for not applying to UCL's medical school! The only requirements for Biomedical Science at UCL are the academic grade requirements, which you'll have if you're already applying for medicine. Applied Medicine Science might be closer allied to medicine in terms of topics, so have a look at the course outlines for each and see which one looks more appealing to you as a 5th option.

One important thing to recognise is that, if you're applying to medicine, you'll have to tailor your personal statement (like an admissions essay) entirely towards medicine in order to be considered. It therefore will be less linked towards something like Biomedical Science, in which case they might ask you for a second personal statement which is more related to that topic. This is a pretty unlikely outcome, but it's important to be covered for all eventualities!

Let me know if I can help in any other way! How are you finding year 12?
