Brighton College, Wellington, Oundle and Roedean Sixth form

Hi, I'm an IGCSE student who's turning Yr11 in Jan 2023. As you may have noticed, our school has a different timing for the school terms.

Yr11 (Me): Jan 2023 ~ Nov 2023
Yr11 (Others): Sep 2022 ~ Sep 2023

So basically, I've lost the chance of applying for Sixth form colleges in England. Therefore, I'm trying to apply next year (2023) for Sep 2024. Nonetheless, as my Yr11 ends at Nov2023, and the sixth form starts at Sep2024, I have a gap of period between Nov2023 and Sep2024 doing nothing.

1. Will this act as any kind of disadvantages when applying for the Sixth form? I'm looking for Brighton College, Wellington, Oundle and Roedean.

2. Are there limited places for international students in Brighton College, Wellington, Oundle and Roedean?

3. Do they offer Academic scholarships to international students in these schools?

4. Recommendation for private boarding school for international student.

(I have searched up a lot for these schools, yet I wish to listen & seek for advices from the experienced/local students)

1. Where are you from? Depending on which country you are in right now it will be different with disadvantages etc...
2. They don't specify, but they tend to take half of their sixth form intake from the UK and the rest from international
3.They do offer academic scholarships, but of limited financial help. You could apply to single-sex schools as well which offer more generous bursaries if you need them in order to study here.
4. As you're applying to Roedean then you must be a girl? For girls school st Catherine's Bramley is good. You could also look at concord college, they have 90% international students so you would fit in there probably more than Brighton, wellington or oundle (Original post by grolwan)

Hi
Unfortunately I can’t help with your first problem but regarding your second issue I do know that Oundle has many international students (I don’t go to Oundle but I have many friends who go there). Also regarding your question about scholarships, all schools have some form of scholarship but have different application procedures to get one. However, no scholarship at any school now comes with large financial reductions (most scholarships get you like £500 off which is nothing significant when you compare it to the fees which for most are +£40000). It doesn't matter that you’re an international applicant when it comes to scholarships, they just want you to be smart! The only way of getting large financial aid is through bursaries but I'm fairly certain those can only be obtained by British citizens and not by international students. Regarding recommendations for other schools, it depends what kind of school you want, if you want a super academic school then your best bet would be Westminster but its very difficult to get into. Winchester has also begun accepting girls so you could also try there. If you want a school where they do stuff other than just academics I would suggest Marlborough and Charterhouse and Cheltenham. Also Cheltenham Ladies’ is a very good school academically so you could consider them as well. Your list is also very good.
I hope I could help you with some of your questions.
Good luck and all the best
Thank you for your down-to-earth information! It is helpful and imma jot down some points

I don’t know much about Oundle but have experience of Brighton College and friends from Roedean.
1. Probably not, there are loads of international boarders at Brighton College, and all had that kind of school year before so they’ll be aware of that when you apply.
2. I’m not sure about formal policies but there is a large international intake so it’s unlikely they’ll be filling a quota if that’s what you’re worried about. They just want you to be very good academically.
3. Yes as far as I’m aware but at Brighton College and probably Wellington as well the financial element is very limited, only a fraction of the fees, and scholarships are more of a title than genuine financial help. For that, it’s bursaries, but I don’t know how common these are for international students.
4. I’d say that if you are very academic then Brighton College is your best bet, followed by Wellington (going by league tables Brighton College is a fair bit ahead, with average A level grades being A* and almost all A*/A. Roedean is smaller and good if you want single-sex, but has a reputation for being quite dramatic in friendships (i.e. a group of my friends had issues with bullying etc) and is less academic (obviously still good but not at the same level and Brighton College and Wellington). I’ve heard of Wellington being good academically and it also has a reputation for sport so if you’re into that then maybe take that into consideration, but sport is big at all these schools so maybe don’t make it the deciding factor. I’m not sure what I’d recommend as it depends on what would be the best fit for you but I hope this is useful.
It's really nice to know all these infornation which is not written in any of the official websites. Thank you so much!

Hi, how is roedean like? I know it is not one of the best ranking schools in UK, but from what I've researched I love what the website says and it looks amazing, how's your experience there? I'm contemplating between applying there and to downe house
