Rejected from exeter for medicine but offered to transfer to medical science

Hi

So i got rejected by Exeter for medicine around a month ago but it wasn’t through ucas but through an email from exeter themselves and currently on my ucas its still says waiting for decision from exeter.

but on the email they offered to transfer my application to medical science to which i accepted it. but my friend who also applied who has a better academic background than me didnt get this offer. so im just wondering is this common and on what basis this based off and how many students get into the medical science through this route.

They could have based their decision on their estimation of your friend’s likelihood to succeed in a medical application if he has a better academic background than you.

But who knows, other than the people who made you the offer. If you take it, you will be ineligible for clearing should medicine enter into it. And you should really consider carefully whether you would actually choose medical science if you had a free choice of any degree other than medicine. And think very carefully also if you really want to spend 3 years doing something that isn’t the thing you really want to do.
