Hi there,

I found the best way for me to study is to break the task down and physically draw out what I want to achieve in a session, e.g., I would aim to examine and evaluate 5 pieces of research I can use in an assignment during one study session. This way it breaks the whole assignment down into bite size chunks and after a few sessions I have built the foundations to right a strong essay.

Also putting your phone in a completely different room to you is key for a smooth uninterrupted study session! If you set a goal to do work for 1 hour, then 20 minutes of phone time it keeps you motivated as having access to your phone is almost like a reward for doing that hour of work

I hope this helps,

Hi Sophie,

What a great thread!

Studying for exams, finishing assignments, or meeting deadlines can be stressful for most, so having a place with some tried and true advice is a great thing for new students to refer to. Here are my go-tos for a successful study session:

Break down bigger tasks into manageable chunks - set yourself a goal to write X-amount of words in a day, find a certain number of relevant articles to read, and so on.

Start early - there is nothing worse than starting your planning late and stressing over the looming deadline!

Reward yourself often - whether this be with a sweet treat, your favourite movie, a fun activity, or something else you love doing.

And remember - if this time becomes particularly tough, don't be afraid to reach out. There are endless amounts of resources available for you and so many people willing to lend a hand, so take advantage of the support network around you.

I hope this helps,

Hi @StudentRoost Rep

My study session tip for completing assignments is to just start writing something on the page even if you go back and completely rewrite it. I find that this makes me more motivated as I have already started and it helps me to start to generate ideas for what I want my assignment to actually look like.

Another tip would be to plan your study sessions for when you are the most productive. I find that evenings are my best time to work so I usually try and do my studying and assignments during this time.

Hi everyone 👋

Siobhan here, a third year student at the University of Central Lancashire. For all those prepping for exams, nerves and stress are going to be creeping up big so here are some tips and advise that helped me out when I was in your shoes

Active recall - test yourself on the spot using flash cards or past papers to help you build your quick thinking 📝

Teach someone else - teach topics that you’re struggling with to someone else or even a teddy! there’s evidence to show this is the best for learning! 👩*🏫🧑*🏫

Take breaks! Make sure you’re looking after yourself and prioritising your well being ☺️

Food for your brain! Reward yourself with a snack from time to time and make sure to stay hydrated too! 🍽️

Catch those 💤- always make sure you set time aside to get a good nights rest, ready to have energy and crack on tomorrow!! 😴😴😴

Use a timetable to keep organised and on track 🗓️ This will help you feel less overwhelmed on the day as you will be mentally prepared knowing what you are going to do.

Hope this helps and good luck to you all!

Siobhan (Student Ambassador for the University of Central Lancashire)
