Hi everyone!

I am setting up this thread to act as a space for students who are applying, or considering applying, to study languages at the University of Oxford.

I am an Oxford graduate I studied Russian and Spanish at Christ Church College. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as an Oxford student and I would like to support others in their applications to study languages at Oxford.

Feel free to post any questions or concerns that you may have surrounding the application process I will do my best to answer them 😊

P.S.
I am also developing some online foreign literature courses, which will be taught by a PhD student at Oxford or Cambridge. The aim of these will be to support Oxbridge language applicants to explore the literature of their target language, studying elements of translation, style, historical context, etc. with the help of an Oxbridge-educated expert. If you are interested in joining a course, please either message me in this thread or visit the LinguaTute website and reach out to me there  Thanks!

Hi! Just marking my place on this thread. I have just put my application in to study Spanish at Somerville College, Oxford. Have you got any advice on interview prep? In my PS I referenced 3 books, a documentary and a podcast, as well as my specific cultural interests so I know I have to be very prepared to talk at length about these. In terms of knowing the books, what sort of information about them would you say is important? And what sort of questions do they ask about them specifically? Thank you so much.

Hi! I am also an applicant to study Spanish at Oxford, would you like to get into contact over this and preparing for interviews?
i’ve applied for beginner’s german and linguistics and did an open application. been allocated st hilda’s
Bit late but.. how did people find the MLAT?
Very late (only just realised this thread existed lol) but hello!
I'm applying for Spanish & Linguistics at St. Hugh's
Tbh, after my MLAT (Spanish) performance last week I'm not feeling confident at all about my application but I'm just hoping that my interviews go well so I actually stand a chance (assuming I get interviewed, that is, but the interview percentage for language applicants is quite high so... fingers crossed)
How did everyone else find the MLAT (or LAT) and their application so far?

Do they interview 99% for modern languages?

I'm not sure but I imagine it's pretty high. I remember seeing the 99% for Spanish & Linguistics on last year's admission statistics but I may be mistaken

which one did you do? I did the LAT (for beginners' languages and Russian) and it was very different from what they've given in the past. Threw me off a bit tbh but I found it quite fun anyway!

I did the French one - I thought it was quite a bit harder than some other papers I had tried....would be interested to know if other people thought the same.

How are you feeling about the interview for Spanish?

It's definitely the interview I'm most nervous for, especially as there are practically zero example interviews on YouTube (and none show the part in the language). Thankfully we have a lot of time to practice....
Wbu?
