Getting into an English degree with English Language A Level

Helloo, I’m hoping to apply for an English degree this year but I was wondering if anyone knows how likely it would be for me to get an offer having not done English Literature at A Level? I don’t know how important GCSE grades are but I got 9s for both Literature and Language and did well in English Language at A Level.

Most of the courses I’m applying for are Linguistics, however for Warwick and Exeter I’d like to apply for English (Literature) + Creative Writing. They specify on their requirements that either English Lit or English Lang + Lit for A Level is recommended, but do you think that it’s a deal breaker?

Thanks

Any Uni that specifies a particular subject wants that subject - if they would just accept Lang then they would say so. Be aware that it doesnt have to be a named 'creative writing' degree to include this - look at the units in all years of the course.

Okay, thank you so much. I would have really liked to study literature but oh well

There are other Unis that wont worry about you not having Lit.

Southampton - https://www.southampton.ac.uk/study/subjects/english
Sussex - https://www.sussex.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/
Kent - https://www.kent.ac.uk/campaigns/english-at-kent

I think you should enquire at the universities you want before writing it off though! You might be offered a place in Foundation year (like at Warwick), or even in first year (like the unis mentioned by honeylily), and you might be asked to do an assignment (like at UEA). Most importantly, I think your personal statement should show strong interest in literary analysis

Hello,
I am thinking of applying to Warwick's English Literature and creative writing course. I would love to get into contact with you to ask you some questions, where did you end up going?
