I have an Austrian friend who wants to study English pronunciation for her final year project and so wants to know TV series that have different English accents on, preferably not 'RP' as that's generic and done to death. Unfortunately it then struck me that I mostly watch American TV shows, plus I'm out of the country so I'm not up to date with TV.

What TV series would you recommend she watches to get a good idea of different accents, or one different accent?

Eastenders for the cockney accent :p:
:p: alas she specified not Eastenders as she wants;

it should be a pronunciation/accent which would be considered acceptable in most formal contexts, if you know what I mean- so it shouldn't be something like Eastenders or so

Tell her to watch Harry Potter.

Can't think of anything with more variety to be honest.

Maybe Skins for the Bristol accent? Although apparently it's not too obvious...
