# Stupid Question But... watch

1. Find the slope of the straight line which passes through the point (-2,0) and is tangential to the graph of y = sqrt x

- How do I know what point the line lies as a tangent to the curve??

If this turns out to be really obvious, my excuse is that I'm hungover and tired!
Thanks =]
2. the general straight line through the point has equation y = m(x +2)
y = rt x

so you have a pair of simultaneous equations, for which you want only one solution. obtain the quadratic equation and set m so that the discriminant = 0 (i.e. a single root)

Ah oui, thankyou =]
