i'm learning shotokan karate, its a bit more offensive than things like aikido (and i think its the style used in the karate kid!). certainly i think whichever kind you learn, it really helps to build strength, flexibility and power, which cant be bad!

    every team does it

but portugal are extreme, cos nearly all their players cheat, even the keeper feigns injury:eek:
To be fair, some teams which don't have a reputation for diving have been bad. Look at Nedved's yellow card against Denmark, which happened in a play where the Danish player (I forget who it was) tripped over himself:confused:. Still Portugal can go too far... but then again so do the Czechs, so perhaps they should meet each other in the finals. It would be a v good match with lots of attacking football.

Hey, I was just wondering which is the best form of martial arts that protects you the best?
A lot of Martial Arts were created for the purpose of sporting, especially the more recent ones, and therefore cannot be used to protect you in real life situations.

If you're looking for something to protect yourself then surely go for Krav Maga as it is basically Street Fighting. However, you could also go for Ninpo (also known as Ninjutsu) since I was watching a documentary about Martial Arts and they said that most of the moves in Ninpo were aimed at either creating fatal blows or to immobilize your enemy.

You took the words right out of my mouth (or should that be keyboard?)

I don't think kick boxing is a martial art.

For protection I'd go for Ju-Jitsu.

It's fairly 'pure' in that there isn't a sport form of it. It is all based on defence from attack and includes weapons.

I only ever used it once (outside a dojo). It was in a nightclub and you should have seen the bouncers' faces. They'd come running because they'd heard there was a fight and what they found was a guy on the floor and me - 5 ft nothing, female walking away. They just couldn't get what was happening.

The club I went to didn't advertise, they worked on the principle that they didn't want the kind of people who answer "learn martial arts" adds, they said if you were interested you'd find the club.

Somehow I think it was the popularity of the idea rather than just you.

Maybe because we now have a forum for sport there's no need to have just one thread for football?
