Robben's been amazing all of this year...
And even at Euro 2004 he hardly set the tournament alight, unlike Rooney. Plus for the first two months of the season he was injured - he's only played 6 league games. Granted he was great in all of them, but still.....

Robben hasnt really featured much this season as mentioned above.

I voted Downing based on the fact that he's playing for an average club (that has excelled themselves in recent times) and really stands out from everyone in the premiership.

Plus, he plays left side midfield and is English..

Remember everyone on here claiming Rooney was the best player in the world a few months back when he scored a hatrick in the champions league? How things change.

If it's judged on this season alone i think Downing should get it. Even played well in Div one. Rooney has'nt done that much after Euro 2004.

Only fools claimed he was the best in the world! ...Though he does have the potential to be!

True, he did well in Euro 2004, scored a CL hat-trick, so based on the year of 2004 he is by far the best, however based on the 04/05 season so far it's Downing and based on the past month its Robben. :tsr:

I'd agree with that.

Will be interesting to see how Downing does when he gets that ineviatble England call up..

Sven really does have the easiest job in the world.

I voted Rooney.
Already been said, but Robben hasn't been so 'spectacular' this calendar year, and Downing's been great this season.
Reyes/Fabregas/Jenas, although been good, have been nowhere near as good to win the thing. And, Van Persie...are you joking?!
I rate Ronaldo, but not as much as Rooney.

From that list, and since it's a calendar year survey, I'd have to go for Rooney, because Downing has only really made such an impact this season.

Ronaldo is a close third, with none of the others really anywhere near those three.
