Basically, I've always kept fit, but apart from jogging 2/3 times a week, I pretty much haven't done any sort of exercise for about a year (I used to do dancing, lots of sport, go to the gym etc).

Anyway, I haven't put on weight or anything like that, but want to get fit again, and over the last day and a half I've been for a really LONG jog on my own, and then went for two different jogs with two different friends (who were my old jogging buddies!). And today, I've noticed my leg muscles are aching quite a bit, in the sense that I know if i ran it would feel uncomfortable/hurt a bit.

I'm not really bothered about that, just wondering if it would be damaging to my leg muscles or ligaments or whatever if i went for another jog (at about 6 this morning - so a few hours away :p:)? Or is that a load of rubbish? I don't really know much about it.

I just really want to go for a run but don't want it to mean I won't be able to go for another for a few days cos I'll damage something or pull a muscle or whatever

I made that much longer than neccessary im sorry! But yeah, advice?

You could try a recovery jog? - just have a light jog that doesn't stress your muscles

You have to give your muscles time to rest and recover. Its just as important as the exercise itself.

Take a couple of days rest and see how you feel, supplement it with a bit of stretching, some alternating hot and cold showers and some gentle exercise (ie; walking). If the aching goes away within that time, or is significantly better, it is probably just a case of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).

Otherwise it could be a sign that you may have a strained muscle (so try warming up better), have poor running form (so try getting some coaching) and/or aren't getting the correct level of support from your running shoes (so try a visit to a specialist running shop and/or podiatrist).
