At Strathclyde does anyone ever get offered a year 1 entry to pharmacy or is it just year 2? I have an interview with RGU but still not heard anything from Strathclyde.

The recommended entry point is usually year 2 as year 1 is more of a foundation year, however some people may still choose to enter from year 1 due to reasons such as wanting to start from the very beginning or maybe that they're unable to do advanced highers which are required for year 2 entry. But again, year 2 entry is the standard route.

Congratulations on getting an interview! When is it? I received a conditional offer from Strathclyde for pharmacy, however I haven't heard anything about interviews yet.

Hello! The normal entry point for the degree is Year 2 so this is what you should select as your entry point on UCAS  We can on occasion offer Year 1 entry however it's most likely students start from Year 2.

Congrats on the RGU interview!! That's brill news  Best of luck!

Hi Caitlin

I’m currently in 5th and am decided what advanced highers to take next year. Would taking advanced higher chemistry and mathematics instead of advanced higher higher chemistry and biology make me a less competitive candidate?

When putting in an application to study pharmacy, is it possible to put in an application for both year 1 and a separate one for year 2 entry or can you only put in 1 for year 2?

Hey there! Sorry for the delay in my reply; I've popped you a PM responding to your query but just popping my response below too:

Our standard entry requirements are for students to achieve AAAB at Higher with Chemistry and Biology at A, and Maths and English at B. We then also ask for BB at Advanced Higher (Chemistry B, and/or Biology B. Physics and Maths could be considered as an alternative to one). So yes, as long as you're taking Chemistry at AH we could consider Maths as the second AH. As long as you're meeting the entry requirements then we would be able to consider you and you'd be a competitive candidate.

We'd recommend you only apply for the one programme with Year 2 entry as this is the normal entry route, so no duplicate applications are required

Yeah this is what’s confused me. I’m hearing different things but I’m just going with the safest option and taking advanced chemistry and biology.

Hey both! We require two advanced highers for entry to Year 2 (the normal entry point for the course). Your advanced highers must include Biology and/OR Chemistry at B, and if you aren't doing both then we will consider Maths or Physics as the alternative. Therefore you could study AH Biology and AH Maths and receive an offer - as you have one of the subjects (either Bio/Chem) we need at AH level.

Hope this makes a bit more sense? But let me know if not  Happy to help!

Aw, I'm really sorry to heart that!

Please don't let yourself down about it, remember that rejection is just redirection. Try to stay positive and many good things will come later on.

Hi Caitlin!

I understand that Year 2 is the normal entry year however under what circumstances would you consider someone for year 1 entry? Also, is there a certain limit/space you have for Year 1?

Thanks

Hi, I’m currently studying in 1st year (Y2 - it’s very confusing) so I understand where you have gone wrong! Is he studying two advanced highers? As these are needed for Y2 entry. I would recommend contacting the university admissions team if so to try and sort it out. I had a friend who applied to Y1 accidentally and was rejected (she didn’t have adequate AH grades and was told she needed a HNC is applied science to get it which is what she did last year) - now we’re studying together. Hope you get this cleared up! Let me know if you have any other questions 👍🏻
