Hey thanks for replying, so do you think I have a decent chance at St Andrew’s or Aberdeen considering my band 2 in SJT? Also, what about st george do yo think the cut off will be 3000+ too?

St Andrew and Aberdeen do not use SJT. You are way above the cut off for St Andrew and Aberdeen for 2024 cycle. St George’s cut off for international was 2700 for 2024.

I think SJT is one of the MMI interview stations at St Andrews (at the very least the SJT score is incorporated in one way or another in the interview score; this means SJT bands one or two are highly preferrable). Aberdeen doesn't use SJT.

Hey! I am international student applying this year and I sat my ucat a while back.
Igcses: bio, chem, physics, maths, english first language, business studies, economics, environmental management- A*
As Level- Bio, chem, environmental management and edexcel maths- A (A is the highest)
Predicted grades- A* in both Bio and chem and A in Maths
UCAT- 2900
VR- 760 DM-720 QR-770 AR- 650
SJT- BAND 2
Work experience: 48 hours of shadowing at local hospital and BSMS virtual work experience
No contextual or WP flags as far as I know
My preferances right now are nottingham (cuz of gcses and vr), glasgow, queen mary's. For the fourth I'd like some advice and I really want to apply king's but my ucat score may be too low especially since I am an international student. Also just wanted to make sure if there is anyway I'll get an interview with ucl or imperial.
Also I read that king's does not have a cutoff but their average ucat for interview was around 3000 something

Think you post was replied to by NGKT from the other page discussion

Nottingham emphasises on SJT 1. You lose 15 points for SJT 2. Glasgow is fine. 2024 Queen Mary cut off is around 2950 so very risky. Kings is very risky too. Imperial and UCL will be using UCAT for the first time this year but the cut off for international is likely to be high. Likely >3000. You have safer options. Leicester, Aberdeen, Dundee, St Andrew’s, Manchester, Southampton. UEA, Brunel, Plymouth, Southampton( but you probably cannot do online interview)

Yes it was but I was asked to upload it here as well, another thing, I wanted to apply to UCL for my fifth choice for neurosciences. How would that work out? And would they put lower weightage on my application compared to people who solely applying for neurosciences?

Universities don't know (or care 😉) about your other UCAS choices, so you'll be fine.

If you are referring to personal statement, you can use your medicine personal statement for neuroscience.

If you are concern about other unis knowing what you choose - no unis will know what your other choices before interview or selection - as mentioned by Uptown Girafe. UCL, your preference for neuroscience bears no weightage and vice versa against the other 4 unis.

hey guys, hope you are well. I wanted some advice on my medicine application. I posted it a while back but I know everyone is super busy so posting it again. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you so much for your time!!

please note: i am at KCL and will be entering my 3rd year of uni, however i am applying to undergraduate medicine courses. I am predicted a 1st for my degree grade.

*home student
GCSEs and full grade/subject breakdown: 999888877 (9 in chemistry, 8 in bio, 8 in physics)

A Levels, subjects: A*A*A* in Bio, Chem, Maths, achieved.

UCAT and breakdown of subsections: 2850. (710 VR, 710 DM 740 QR 690 AR)

SJT band: 1

Brief mention of work experience: shadowed a neurologist, shadowed a neurosurgeon, volunteering a hospital, tutoring for 3 years, president of a STEM society.

The research you have done and any preferences: my top choice is Cambridge. I really like the traditional style of dividing clinical vs pre clinical years. 2nd choice: UCL. 3rd and 4th choices - Plymouth and Leicester?

Reply 6867

GCSE: 8 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 1 grade 7
Alevels predicted: A*A*A*A* + EPQ
UCAT: 2520 B3

Should I apply to KCL or QMUL or is it too risky due to my UCAT score?

hi, i thought i would reply to you as i am at KCL and i have friends at UCL doing neuroscience. if your personal statement is not explicitly for neuroscience, you have a high chance of getting rejected from UCL. my friend applied to do biomed sciences at UCL with a medicine PS and she got rejected. this is from my experience both as a neuroscience student and going to KCL (going in my 3rd year this sept).

however i also have a friend who is doing neuroscience at UCL and she submitted a neuroscience statement and got in. she's now working as a data analyst at pfizer.

This is super interesting feedback. My stepson had UCL cancer biomedicine (or whatever that's called 😀 ) as his fifth UCAS choice, applying with a 100% medicine-geared personal statement. He still got an offer from UCL for the cancer biomedicine course, so I wonder if we can be sure your friend was rejected because of the personal statement?

Oh! Well that's a relief. Does being an international applicant affect the acceptance rate somehow?

i don't know, maybe not. she got 3A*s in the end. i just wanted to provide my insight on it!

Cambridge is unlikely to work out if you've already started another undergraduate degree elsewhere and you'll probably be quite a bit below Cambridge and UCL's UCAT cutoffs (even though we cannot be sure in this transition year). I'm not sure how Plymouth considers students who have already started a degree elsewhere. Assuming they're fine with it, you should be safe for an interview. I don't know much about Leicester.

My initial advice would be to double check admissions for "mature" students/with achieved A-Levels in various universities and then take it from there.

yes it does. there are less places available for international students as there is a number of cap on how many you can take on the course. some universities tell you how many places are there for internationals on the course, i think its usually 12 or 13.

For medicine? Yes, very much so given international places are separate from UK places. Admission requirements for international students are typically far higher.

that's interesting, thanks for your insight! although just a correction, you can still apply for the A100 with a degree from Cambridge. you can choose to skip the intercalated year. you can only apply to some colleges though.

Yes, "with a degree from Cambridge" 😉 Applying and having high chances of being made an offer are also two very different things 😀 Other volunteers will probably have more insights into this than I do. Good luck!

Ah, thank you, it's working now. From the scoring table, I would probably score 82/100 for the achieved grades and no WP section. Do you think this is competitive enough to get an interview?

There are likely to be 7 group of candidates above yourself - your 82 vs, ie from 84 to 100 for achieved A level (gap year etc), there is certain risk factor involved.
