On the ucl website it says that rooms are allocated on random basis and accommodation offers will be sent out between july and end aug. Does the same apply to intercollegiate halls, or is it first-come first-served?

I’m not sure either really.
also I saw other people saying that we’re not allowed to apply for intercollegiate halls and ucl halls at the same time but the application portal thing let me to do so…
Anyways I have submitted the application yesterday, I’ll let you know whether the intercollegiate halls offer me a place before july

This is good to know! Were you able to specify intercollegiate hall as first choice over UCL hall? (I presume that’s the case)

hey guys, I’m deciding between ucl and a non-london uni, but one thing throwing me off is that im really worried about accommodation since you can’t put down preferences - i could choose a no alcohol/quiet/etc flat at the other uni but ucl seems like such a gamble
im really scared I’ll end up with people i just cant relate to or just really loud people that don’t match my vibe - im a social introvert but i do like silence sometimes
anyone else feel the same way, or is there a current ucl student who can reassure me on this??
i adore the university but this one factor has been bugging me for almost a week

This is likely to be the case whichever uni you go to. And to me, learning to live with others and overcoming some of the challenges is part of the uni experience  so don’t stress, choose the uni you really prefer and hope for the best!

Does anyone know what the best halls are at UCL (I know we can't put a preference). Just unsure whether intercollegiate halls or the UCL halls are better. I'm a home student and assume more international students go to intercollegiate halls?

This is what I’m wondering…..would be interesting to know 👍🏻

That is not true, intercollegiate halls are much nicer in terms of facilities, definitely the way to go!

I firmed quite a while ago (prolly around 3 weeks) but to apply, the application portal is open right now as I write this and on their website it says that you should apply as soon as you've accepted a firm offer at UCL but you need a UCL ID which they will tell you once they've made for you. Unfortunately, that means there really is no way to know when, but it'll probably be in June (my prediction based on my observations of my friends who graduated last year, no official sources) hopefully. If you're very concerned for whatever reason, you should email their accommodations office at [email protected]

About 3 days. https://residences.ucl.ac.uk/Portal/745C734B/1/1/Home-UCL_Accommodation_Po

I used the same login for Portico - I'm ready to log in, I have a UCL user ID or have registered an email address, and I know my password

Personally, I did get an email when I firmed the offer where it told me where I can apply, when I have to apply by and what I should use to apply. But no email SPECIFICALLY about the accommodation portal
And since BubblesBB here says that its just the portico login, that information should've been setup when you first submitted your UCAS application back in January or December depending on when you applied, they should've sent you an email titled UCL Portal - Admissions Portal now available! Student No. 1234567890
