What do I need to do to succeed as a student and transition into the workforce?

Pretty simple - get as high grade as you possible can and get as much relevant experience as you can before you graduate (through volunteering, extra curriculum projects, projects in your own time and initiative, work placements / internships).
The latter will seriously increase your chances in getting your "dream job" after graduating.
