Switching degrees as a UCL offer holder?

Hello everyone,

I'm an offer holder for the Hebrew and Jewish Studies degree, but I've realised that my true passion lies in anthropology. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on switching programmes at this stage, and if it's possible to do so without jeopardising my offer for Hebrew and Jewish Studies?

I'm really excited about the prospect of pursuing anthropology, but I'm not sure how to go about switching degrees, and I'm worried that I might end up being rejected from both degrees. Has anyone been in a similar situation before, and if so, what was the process like?

I'm also worried about the implications of leaving the HJS department, given that I've already built some relation with the academics and there aren't many applicants.

Thank you so much for your help!

You should e-mail UCL undergraduate admission - I did that several years ago and changed the course before the first year started.
As above, just contact them to ask. It won’t jeopardise your current offer.

Do you think they would let me swap now or would I have to wait until results day? Also would my offer change from my current one to the anthropology required grades (which would be slightly higher)? Also what subjects did you swap? Thanks!
Don’t wait until results day. The course is more likely to be full. If they agree then your offer will change to whatever requirements the new course has.

You can always ask, they won't rescind your offer for asking.

I'd note that even if not, you can take anthropology modules as electives in the HJS programme.

You can switch courses within the first few weeks of uni if you don’t enjoy your course. Just don’t wait too long. Alternatively just ask the admissions team
(This threaad is a year old and long ago been answered.)

Repeating myself from a year ago, don't wait until results day. You lessen the chance the uni can accomodate changes. Ask as soon as you are sure.

Can you sometimes swap once enrolled? Yes. Do unis often say no? Also yes.

Hi, I firmed UCL for MPharm with deferred entry to 2025, but I'm thinking abt asking to switch to the biological science course or applied medical science (smth bioscience related). As u have said u shouldn't wait but as I have my exams coming up v soon I wanna focus on them rather than researching/deciding if I should make the switch. Do u think the decision/request can wait until the beginning of July when all my exams are done?

No. It’ll take you 5 mins to fire off an email and get a yes / no answer as to whether it will be possible. You can decide later if you make it clear you’re just enquiring at the moment.

Ask now if you’re sure.
