Nursing and DBS

So please no judgement it was a really hard time in my life, but I was in a situation last year where I was suffering severely with my mental health and didn’t feel strong enough to reach out for help and I actually ended up getting 3 cautions for assault, this obviously shows on my DBS, so I have a conditional offer for adult nursing I had an interview and told them everything about what had happened and still got a conditional offer but when they do show on my DBS even though they already know they will, how likely am I to actually be able to get into university and study nursing? Since the cautions I have had a mental health diagnosis, I’m taking medication and I’m under a mental health team, I’ve also got a job in care currently and they know about everything

You declared it and we're honest and upfront. I'm sure there won't be any issues. The problem is when you're dishonest. Best wishes

Hello @BTom1998

I hope you’re well. Strictly no judgement here - Congratulations on getting a conditional offer!

The thing is you’ve told them at your interview and they’ve still given you a conditional offer. If you are still worried about it, I’d give them a quick call and see if you can speak to someone and get their opinion. Once they receive your DBS maybe they will speak to you, retract your offer or keep it. I’d say to wait for a while and if you don’t hear anything - contact them so you can get proper confirmation.

I hope this helps

I have previous four offences and my PVG (Scotland) come back with nothing showing.

From England and Wales, a great organisation called Unlock can help guide you even after uni and when these offences might not like me show up and indeed when the law protects you like me from employers and in turn employees from bashing you with the past.

For me going into mental health nursing, I know the fact I have seen prison and numerous engagements with the system; my background stands me in great stead. Something I hated was textbook nurses without life experience of the state other than textbooks.

Might find like me that the bad aspect helps and opens the eyes of colleagues as well!

Just a little update, so they’re meeting with the DBS panel on the 25th of august to discuss and I’m now terrified, I’ve got to hand in my notice at work and obviously it won’t be 4 weeks notice and I’m just scared that they’ll do this panel meeting and say I can’t get in
