Yeah I never get one but I always have that fraction of hope that I just might even when the odds are stacked against it. I don't begrudge other people or anything but it does remind you that your single in a big way. I'm sort of friends with this girl and we both like each other but nothings happened yet and even despite that, I'm not expecting to get one this year.

I find it all a bit too fake and commercial as it's simply invented to make people spend money however, I do admit I buy into it as I feel my boyfriend would feel upset if I didn't and anyway- we've decided to view it as a bit of fun to pick something not too dear for each other and an oppurtunity for a nice meal (which we always love!)

This might sound sexist but I don't think lads should be that bothered if they don't get anything, I mean I personally would only want a card, I wouldn't want flowers or a teddy or anything and Id understand if a girl got upset if she never got anything and to be honest with you, even though it would be nice to get a card, if I had a g/f and she never got me one it wouldn't be such a big issue to me

Back in my youth I got dumped by a girl for not getting her a valentines card (we had been 'seeing' each other for less than a week), however she hadn't got me one and felt entirely justified in not doing so.

Personally I hate the expectation, it takes all the romance out of the situation. I like to give my girlfriend flowers when she isn't expecting them as it really cheers her up. On valentines day, unless you really push the boat out, all the flowers and chocolates etc are just expected and they lose their impact. However I have learnt that girls expect you to do something for valentines day and get upset if you don't so, despite hating it I opt for the pragmatic solution...

That's really cool... I agree that spontaneous things are more romantic Unfortunately a lot of boys rarely bother which is why lots of girls really pressure them to be romantic for at least one day of the year!

When I was sixteen I went out with a boy that refused to get me anything because he thought it was commercialistic crap or something.. I wasn't bothered by the principle but he didn't do anything to show he cared for the rest of the time I was going out with him either so I was rather hurt.. we didn't last very long

Yep, it seems to be the case in a lot of relationships.

Remember guys:- thanks to Tesco flowers are cheap so there is no excuse!

Also to the girls:- we like getting little pressies too (just not flowers or chocolates... okay maybe chocolates).

.. I find it really hard to buy presents for boys though I think it must be far easier for boys, lots of girls will be happy with anything pretty!

It is far easier for us, because shops realise we are useless and thrust lots of stuff in our faces. However it is a lot harder to be original and some girls demand that. Blokes aren't used to getting random tokens of affection so anything would probably be appreciated.

as above.
Permit me to make up my mind on the above question after Valentine's Day... this is my first VD where I've been with someone, so up til now it's been rubbish! I'm hoping that will change!
