40 or 48 week accomidation for nursing/medical subjects?

Hi, I am hopefully starting Children’s nursing at KCL, In September 2023.

Now accomidation booking has opened, it has been recommended to me that I book an accomidation with a 48 week contract as I am taking nursing.

I wanted to know if anyone else doing a nursing or medical related course is going to choose a 48 week contract or a 40 week contract?

I know that for nurses, our summer break is either june-july or july-august, which ever one you aren’t in will be the one you do your placements in at hospitals.

I think that may be the reason for the longer contract, but wouldn’t the longer contract be absolutely useless if I do the June-july summer break instead of the july-august summer break. I don’t even have a choice in which break i get, I dont think.
Which accommodation are you thinking of? I'm torn between GDSA or Hayloft Point. Hayloft Point is really nice but is £315 a week. On the other hand GDSA is only £215 but is no where near as nice as GDSA. There's also Angel Lane which is nice and £255 but it's in Stratford and it doesn't have a gym like the other two. The 40 week contracts have better options and some are closer to Waterloo Campus. I'm in the exact same situation and it's so difficult to choose which contract length to choose!

I think that I'm going to go for 48 weeks just in case because when I asked about which contract they said this:
If there is no option for 48 week rooms we would advise to either wait for more rooms to become released or book a 40 week room. Once you book a 40 week contract this cannot be extended onto your contract.

Hey! I think I remember from last year that the 48 weeks was more for nursing degrees due to placements but that is as much as I remember, I study first-year med & I booked the 40 week which is long enough for most courses (finishing around June time)

I have friends who are intending to apply for Hayloft next year and most of us currently live at GDSA - GDSA is about a 30-35 min walk from Waterloo which isn't bad & a 10 min walk from Guy's campus. I think for the price, GDSA is really good for location & both campuses are easily accessible. The gym is a bit small but so convenient if you want to save time & money you would need for another membership! I hope it helps but the 40 week has been enough for most people I know, I think it depends on whether you should expect to be on placement.
