Hi, Just got my accommodation offer for Jan 24 for Hailsham House. Just curious if most med students choose Beloff house or Hailsham ?

And is there a group chat for Jan 24 Buckingham accepted students? Thanks

Hailsham has a lot of med students as it is a bigger complex with both ensuite and shared bathroom options. the rooms at hailsham are slightly bigger than beloff. i'd recommend hailsham as it's quite close to everything and the laundry room is here. I'm currently at hailsham (but will be moving out soon as I just finished phase 1) 🙂

Thank you for replying! I’ll stick with Hailsham, a bigger complex & room is definitely a plus. How has Phase 1 been?

Great to hear that you enjoyed it. All the best for clinicals!

What resources/books would you recommend for first years? I thought I might start reading a little before January 😬

i usually use online resources now but I do look through some textbooks sometimes if i need some clarification on some concepts. i mainly use question banks like passmed & quesmed after learning all the info

for 1st year here are some textbooks either recommended by the uni or a lot of students use:

clinical medicine - kumar & clark's

wheater's functional histology

gray's anatomy

robbin's and cotran pathologic basis of disease

langman's medical embryology

guyton & hall medical physiology

macloeid's clinical examination --> for osces

for all systems:

pulsenotes

zero to finals

osmosis

dr matt & mike (youtube)

ninja nerd (youtube)

crash course revision guides (highly recommended! they have one for every system and it's really good if you want something concise)

anatomy:

kenhub

teachmeanatomy

netter's atlas (or for the textbooks for diff systems e.g. neuro, gynae)

thieme textbooks

gray's anatomy

pharma:

rang & dale's - condensed one is so good for summaries

hope this helps! don't be overwhelmed as a lot of the stuff here (esp the systems) is more relevant for 2nd year. in your first term everything will be the basic sciences so it's hard to find resources to reference the lectures. in your first year the lectures will be the main learning material so try and stick to the lectures as much as possible 🙂 most of all, try and enjoy your holiday while you still can, as you will find yourself wanting more holidays throughout the course 🤣

good luck with med school! if you have any specific questions feel free to dm me, I'm always happy to help!

What does the daily schedule for classes look like ?

You’ll have class either from 9am-1pm or 130pm-530pm. The four hour block that you aren’t in class you’re expected to “self-directed study”.

I'm pretty sure it is going to be like verbal answer, the invigilator will share their screen to show the questions, you have 1 minute to prepare, and approx 7 mins to speak. My interview is tomorrow and I'm so scared

I asked the admissions and they said its written, im confused is it verbal or written.... this is stage 2 btw
