Rutherford Appleton Lab Work Experience

So, I applied for work experience at RAL and got in  tbh i applied not expecting to get given a placement but just thought why not, since it seemed like a cool opportunity and I was interested by the research being done there.

However I live quite far from the site (100-120 miles by road), and I dont really know anyone who lives close by who I can stay with, is it worth going?

I'd either have to pay for a hotel (expensive, it's like 12 days) or take the train every day (also expensive and means waking up at 4am).

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Was not successful for RAL application. Now waiting for Daresbury - not feeling optimistic.

I'm sure you'll get a placement at Daresbury! I have a feeling that its set up so that you can't get both placements.

Thank you! I'm not optimistic though as I think I was meant to find out same time as the RAL. No news is good news?

Hello! I did end up going, it was really enjoyable and I learned a lot, would reccomend going if you are able. It turns out I did know somebody, so I stayed with them during the work experience. If you do get in, my only advice is to learn some Python beforehand, as there is a good chance you might need to use it.

Hi! I'm trying to apply for the RAL Work experience 2025 here and I need some help with writing the express in interest part. Could you help suggest ideas as well as telling how the experience was for you?
