Met police day 1. Assessment

Hi! I’ve applied to join the Met police, I’ve just sat the day 1 assessment centre and everything went fine apart from 1 question on the competency interview, I just did not have an answer, I tried to give something but I was clueless so stopped recording. I’m just wondering, if you can’t answer a question is it a fail? Or is there a chance you can still pass? Wondering if I should withdraw my application so I can reapply sooner or leave it and see what the outcome is!

If you didn't say anything at all, you could well have dipped it, I'm afraid.

Having said that, they're super desperate so there's a chance you might get through.

I said something, I started giving an answer but as I was blabbering away I realised it was nothing of importance and just stopped, so annoyed with myself as I’ve been working so hard towards this!

If I said I fail, I take it as a learning curve and do better next time!

I also imagine that as the 20k uplift has been hit they’re no longer so desperate and recruitment could take a while longer than it has been?

Not even close. A lot of what was claimed as uplift is retirees coming straight back on temporary contracts. The average service length is very low now, so a lot of the people who joined on uplift have already left!

Oh that’s actually good to know, gives me a sense of hope! I guess I’ll just be patient and see how it goes

Which route were you going for? PCs probably has better chances of entry at the moment.

Yeah I’ve applied for PC, I’ve got down the IPLDP route!

Only speaking in very general terms - there is more demand for PCs, so you might be ok. IPLDP is also without question the best route.

It’s not the worst thing if I fail, I’ll just reapply and not butcher it again! It’s just the long wait of finding out if I did fail or not before being able to reapply!

Hopefully everything else was answered to a high enough standard and I’m given a chance!

Yes definitely - I have a friend who works for the met and he said he doesn’t know anyone who took the degree route and is happy. That was the route I initially wanted to go down so I’m super glad he told me that.

I don't think the degree routes are working out as planned. Once people have finished training and are working, they aren't interested in the degree any more and don't have time for it.

Hope it works out for you.

Hi all, just found this thread. I did the day 1 assessment on the 5th May. So it'll be 3 weeks on friday which they said it could take 2/3 weeks when i had a phone call from them. Think it went ok but not holding my breath. This'll be the 5th time applying:s-smilie: for various forces. on the plus side this is the furthest i've got up to now so at least thats the positive.

How did everyone find the briefing exercise. Think I messed it up because I just felt like it was the same questions over and over.

Did you find out today in the end??

it's good to know it's around 2/3 weeks, I've read some people saying it's been 9 weeks and they still haven't heard! Definitely a positive you made it to here and I'm sure you did well!

I thought the briefing was ok actually, probably the easiest part for me, I felt like if you just show you know the competency and values and can demonstrate them as well as common sense you're fine - Though I nerves got the better of me and I probably did not

So how did it go? Did you hear back from them? Also, can you please explain the recruitment process in a little detail if you don’t mind - like in steps?

It was fine in the end, passed the online assessments and was invited to the day two assessments at Kennington which involved DNA, fingerprints, SMT (hair samples), fitness test (5.4 bleep test), 2 role plays and medical (eyesight and hearing). Later on in the day I received an email to log onto the vetting portal and complete the vetting which I did when I got home. Passed everything at the day 2 and was just waiting on my vetting to come back.

Unfortunately I failed the vetting so currently waiting to hear back on my appeal but the whole process was actually really quick and straight forward!

Breakdown of my process below;

Applied 14th April
Completed behavioural questionnaire 17th April
Passed behavioural questionnaire 24th April
Received link to online assessments 15th May
Completely online assessments 21st May
Passed online assessments 8th June
Attended day two 20th June
Completed vetting 20th June
Emailed to say vatting refused 2nd August

Hope this helps:smile:

So what happens when your vetting is refused? Do you have to wait another 6 months to reapply? And thank you.

You’re given the chance to appeal the decision, if the appeal is unsuccessful then you’ll have to wait 6 months and apply again!

Oh ok. Hopefully it is successful man. Do you know why your vetting would be refused though? Any ideas?

Hey guys, I completed the assessment centre 2 weeks ago and found out this week that I passed! They are going to email regarding a fitness and medical test/vetting stuff. Is there any interviews/further stages after this part of the application?T
Thanks
