Someone I know just carried one from their room to the kitchen; I don't believe that you're strictly allowed to use one in your room; but I doubt you'd get told off.

Wow. When i was a fresher we wondered whether we could have kettles in our room. Have we really evolved onto coffee makers in 3 years?

Basically no you aren't allowed. But the only was you will get found out is if the cleaners see it and report you to the warden

Just use it in the kitchen? :s
When my power went in my room the first thing they questioned me on was a coffee maker (didn't have one but it was what they asked about) so they seem quite vigilant about coffee machines. Just have one in the kitchen. Walking down a corridor is hardly difficult or time consuming. Life will be a more sociable experience if you leave your room to get drinks!
