The Student Room Group

Just got a 5-6 in science and a 5 in maths mock papers.

Hello, I am writing here because I want to improve my grades, I really want to get the highest grades as I believe that this is what I think I'd want for myself. I have to dedicate lots of my time to studying now and over the holidays. How much revison I should do? and what are some good resources and tips and tricks? I use bbc bitesize and own two CGP books, one for maths and the other for science. I also would like to ask one thing, is the grades i've got good enough yet?

Hey there, I'm glad I get to share this with you, because this is some crazy advice lol

Basically, there is a YT channel called freesciencelessons, and this guy has helped MANY PEOPLE go from a 5-6 to an 8-9 in GCSE sciences. His videos are amazing, they are way better than school. Literally, a 1 hour lesson your teacher would usually teach is taught by this guy in around 4-5 minutes each video. Trust me, you'll learn a lot, and he keeps posting new videos for the new syllabus each year. So his content is up to date.

Here's the link: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/c/freesciencelessons&ved=2ahUKEwiH2Ivj8MmFAxXGZkEAHSsgC1UQFnoECBMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0TJJUrtTNWbzk4jHWDMEdo

For maths, there is a website called Sparx Maths, and trust me it has A LOT of bad reviews, these are from kids who hate maths and homework in general and deep down know that Sparx is actually good for their learning. Cambridge University has researched about Sparx and they have concluded that it is really good for students who want to learn maths. Personally, using Sparx I have improved quite a bit. I've always been a predicted grade 9, but I'm always a few marks off 100% 😅 so I use Sparx to improve.

This is a really long post lol
I hope you get good grades, and also, the current grades you're getting are good, a 5 means a good pass, so you can probably do A levels if you apply to some 6th forms. A 6 is obviously great 🙂
Good luck

Yes, in my first and second mocks I got from a 5-6 to a 7-6, now I just need to aim for higher but I need to improve my exam technique, so I will use PMT .

In maths I went from a 4 to an 8 by using TheGCSEMathsTeacher on YouTube and topic questions on MathsGenie.

In science, I recommend practicing exam technique by doing topic-based questions using physics maths tutor. This helped me go from 6s to 9s in the sciences. It’s what really separates the grades. Practice those 6 markers too (Primrose Kitten has a book with guidance on how to do 6 markers, personal message me on here if you want it) and make sure that in a test to spend time wisely you do them first.
use CGP target grade 8 or 9 workbooks to practice the hardest application questions, and look on YouTube for walkthroughs of past papers.
