This was a 4/10 window at best. Havertz proving awful, TImber out for the season. We've basically replaced Xhaka with Rice and called it a day. Also worse off with defensive depth. Somehow our squad last season seemed better..

Don't think we'll be anywhere near a title. The board has proved incompetent again and again. Question marks were around Edu and the board last January and they are around them again now.. Worst thing is you can't criticise anything about this club without the sunny days crew telling you to **** off to the lane and stop being negative

Balogun - £50m
Tierney - £30m
Pepe - £15m
Holding - £10m
Tavarez - £15m
Lokonga - £5m

That's all fair valuations for these players and what they would have been sold at if they were at different clubs. We've missed out on roughly £125m and ended up receiving £30m at best instead. Shocking transfer strategies. That £120m could have easily gone into another 2 players minimum and we'd be set for the season. One injury to Saka or Odegard and we are in crisis btw..

tbf we are lucky with the injury profiles of the big players
Rice/Saka/Odegaard have been playing 37+ games for years

Supporting cast of White, Gabriel etc are all similar
A bit like Xhaka, who was never injured. ever.

Only injury prone players we have are Jesus, Partey, Zinchenko.

In terms of us selling players, I have no doubt that if we were getting approached for Saka/Odegaard that we'd be getting bids of £49m, Saliba would be £29m. It's pitiful and I believe its just the perception Arsenal have and the distain were treated with by buying clubs. Serious questions need to be asked about what were not doing in these negotiations as well maybe...

In the last 10 years I can think of Iwobi/Wilock/Martinez who were sold for prices you'd say were fair. When the time comes to sell Nketiah we will genuinely be getting bids of £10m. Liverpool/Chelsea/City would easily be getting £30m+ for him. If we put Ramsdale on the market tomorrow it would be £15m. **** it

As much as I love him, Wenger must be responsible to some extent for it. The percpetion of us being a bargain basement store is hard to shake it seems.

Selling Xhaka and not replacing him with a similar profile was sacrilege, he was pivotal to our buildup play.

Also, Fabio Vieira > Havertz in that LCM position. Havertz is not an LCM, he's a CF or false 9.

Havertz is an option at CF yes. He doesnt score a lot of goals but hes effectively a back up striker if anything....

I never want to see him in midfield again, he doesnt do a damn thing other than disrupt the flow.

In terms of Xhaka, I think Rice will be better once he finds his feet but it will be a matter of losing points here and there until then

lmao remember Havertz at 8 under Lampard. Maybe Lampard wasn't that bad a manager he just had bums like Havertz and Ziyech to work with who are world class once every 8 games and midtable the over 7.

The thing is, £65m for a backup striker nowadays really is not bad at all. If you are looking for a world class striker, it's easily £150m for a young striker approaching his prime or reaching his prime.

How much will Osimhen go for? I just don't think we can afford a world class ready made striker. We need to go with a smart buy imo, Ivan Toney? Yes please.

Will Havertz turn out to be a 20 goal a season striker ? I don't think so, but he will be a very good player for us imo. He has a way of moving which suggests he's very awkward, he is not accustomed to his own frame. He needs to get used to his own frame.
Need to make Ferguson the big summer signing. £100m? £150m?

This kid will be scoring 25 goals/season for the next decade easily

We'll probably be buying him for 200

Means little.
Rice is boyhood Chelsea fan
Odegaard is boyhood Liverpool fan
Kane is boyhood Arsenal fan
Tony Adams is boyhood West Ham fan

If we pay what they want and the project is still as attractive next year, big if, then he's more likely to join Arsenal imo.

Although what Jam said is true, money talks and Chelsea, still somehow, need a striker so they'll obviously be in. As will Liverpool no doubt. So it's a 4 horse race but Utd are certainly a less attractive desintation all else equal atm than Arsenal,
Caicedo is a boyhood Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid fan. If you know you know.
It would have to go like:
City Chelsea
Liverpool Man Utd Arsenal

Obviously City don't really need him so I could see Chelsea go for him. But can't see why Arsenal have a better chance. Rice was already in London, and isn't the same type of generational talent (not saying he isn't great). But let's see how this season goes.

That’s the Liverpool of a few years ago and died with the Rhian Brewster / £20m to Sheffield United in 2020, which was insanity at the time.

Now we let players run down contracts because we want to be nice to players in the squad and can’t sell players like Nat Phillips, who is now 2 years on from when his stock was at its highest.

You can see what the wider football world thinks of Liverpool, as they have had the most players targeted by the Saudi’s, as it looks like we’re happy to let players go - Alisson, Konate, Henderson, Fabinho, Diaz and Salah. Whereas nobody at Arsenal has been targeted, except for Gabriel, despite Arsenal having a significantly better season last year.

Brewster is tip of the iceberg
Harry Wilson £12m, Ki-Jana Hoever £10m, Ryan Kent £7m, Lovren £10m, Awoniyi £8m, Grujić £10m, Minamino £14m, Davies £3m and years back Solanke £19m

None of these are top players but all fetched good prices. Compare this with Arsenal and we sell Rob Holding, a two times FA Cup winner and a solid option for lower PL teams aged 26 for £1.5m...

It's really like clubs start negotiating with Arsenal from a perspective of "everyone else gets good deals there so paying a normal price is a bad deal..." whereas at Liverpool its a case of "well everyone else pays fair value so just pay up"

It costs us a fortune and I really dont know how to end it.

I gave some examples on here the other day but the likes of Holding, Tierney and Balogun should easily be generating £80m for us and not £30m as they have. In prior years weve had terrible sales in general with the likes of Kolasinac, Aubamayang, Debuchy, Jeff Reine-Adélaïde (recently gone to Lyon for £25m) , Akpom (recently gone to Ajax for £14m). Monreal, Mustafi, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Calum Chambers, Torreria, Bellerin, Mavropanos (recently to WHU for £15m) all sold for either zero or a pittance.

In short, we dont generate ANY value from our sales and it all adds up.

And on the other end of the scale you have Chelsea selling Havertz for 60m and mount for 50m with a year left on his contract.
Yeah there is definitely a gab between top players and average players but Holding for 4m seemed odd to me too, thought they missed a 1 and it was more like 14m. Average player but 27 year old centre back in his peak with lots of experience.

I believe this is partly caused by Wenger being the ONLY man at Arsenal involved in running everything from the catering to £200k contracts...
We have no infrasructure and so clubs dealing with Arsenal are just sort of smelling blood when it comes to getting the cheque book out.
That and sales years back of RVP, Fabregas, Adbayor, Nasri, Sanchez. The perception of "well get what we want, they'll just roll over" is palpable.

But they are pre-Brewster. We were good at selling players, until Brewster. Now we let players go for free because we don’t have the ruthlessness to tell them that they aren’t wanted and to **** off.
