Hopefully someone can advise on this
So, starting from the beginning.
On the 25th of Jan I've been placed to reserve list for DWP (EO role).
I applied to other Civil service roles afterwards.
On the 27th of March I've got a provisional offer from HMRC for an AO role (obviously lower job grade). I accepted it and pre employment checks have been started, and still in progress as of today.
2 days ago, on the 1st of May I've got a provisional offer from DWP for the EO role in one of my preferred areas. I accepted this offer as well. I know pre employment checks at DWP might take up to 3 months, so it's also started.
However, pre employment checks at HMRC are soon to be finished and hopefully I'll be able to start sometime in June.
I emailed to DWP if that's okay to start working for HMRC in the meantime, and just give my notice once I'll get the formal offer. They said it shouldn't affect my job offer, but I need to make an enquiry to HMRC about this question.
I then emailed to HMRC to ask if there is an expected minimum time to be spent in the position and if so, can promotion be accepted during this time. They emailed me back to say that I can apply to higher positions once my probation (6 months) ends and if my line manager supports my application. They might misunderstood me as I'm not planning to apply any more positions, but what happens if I got the formal offer from DWP?
I tried to be as transparent as I could with both department, but I'm going nowhere with their replies.
Anyone else were in similar situations before?
As AO is lower grade than EO, this means I do not have to withdraw my application, which i don't want to as I really need to start working somewhere. Can I suffer any disadvantage due to changing jobs in civil service during the probation period?
Any advice is appreciated!

I joined as an AO in HMRC. Shortly after starting, I was offered an EO job from a reserve list from the DWP. I transferred over via their Internal transfer process after my checks were complete (about 2 months in).

The DWP were supposed to honour the time served on probation in the HMRC, meaning I was only supposed to be on probation at the, DWP for a further 4 month to make it 6 months in total in the CS.

My line manager mucked me and another internal transfer about, insisting the 6 months started from scratch again at the job centre (it didn't, I sent her the links to the HR adice on this but she ignored it).

Anyway, the Work Coach role wasn't for me and Im off to the Home Office for a job that isn't client facing.

Just start with HMRC and hand your notice in when you get your DWP offer, as you've suggested. You are allowed to quit any time, so there is no issue there! And it's absolutely fine to work somewhere else while waiting for your DWP PECS to complete.

I don't think you would be able to do an internal transfer from HMRC to DWP as you're already in PECS as an external candidate with them.

Your DWP PECS may not take as long as you think, so there isn't likely to be any great loss of continuous service as a civil servant etc.

You've done the right thing in accepting both offers - congratulations!

Hi guys! Just wanted to check in. Pre employment checks were done on 9th may. Got start date for June EO work coach full time perm position. Had a call from my line manager today that mentioned that just to let me know it don’t start as a perm contract it’s a conditional, but I think he was confusing me and thought I haven’t done my vetting yet but I have? Can anyone share an opinion?

New civil servants are on a 6 month probation period regardless of the role.

Hi hoping someone can help. I’ve been on reserve list since end of Jan so that times up at the end of next month. I’ve been asked for documents for a provisional offer for a location that’s about 50minutea to an hour away - they said it’s been added to my proffered locations? If I decline that will it affect my future options? If I accept it does anyone know how easy it is to do an internal transfer to somewhere closer to home? Or how long I’m likely to wait?! Just not sure if to accept and get my foot in the door but equally with kids at home it’s a long commute!

I declined a position and then was offered another one a few weeks after for a decision maker in which I accepted so I wouldn’t say it negatively impacts you if you decline an offer.

Hi I’m trying to make sense of it I just got the outcome of my pre recorded interview for Cumbria/Lancashire Work Coach and I got the following:

Placed on reserve list.

Please see below feedback and score following your Pre-Recorded Video Interview:
Behaviour: Communicating & Influencing: Question 1: 4 Behaviour: Managing a Quality Service: Question 2: 4
Behaviour: Making Effective Decisions: Question 3: 4
Score: 12

My overall mark was 12.
Is that good and how likely is it that I would be made an offer as on merit list now for 6 marks is 12 my overall score?
Appreciate people’s feedback thanks!

Hi ya my interview is soon can you pls let me know what questions did you get pls

Hey,
I applied for the work coach role last year and was put on the reserve list. They came back to me today asking me to upload right to work documents and ID.

How long do I have to wait back to hear back? Does it mean I'm potentially going to secure the job???

Basically 1) call them and aak for an update 2) get emails from them asking for more information then you know they are actually working on it. I didn't get emails every Friday either. I got DBS on the post, and OH consultation yesterday, I thinki only thing pending is my work reference as they are asking for my consent in writing.. never heard of that before. Definitely delaying my checks :/

Mine went from
“Thank you for completing your pre-recorded videointerview. Your application will now be reviewed by our team and you will be contacted soon with the outcome”
Now it says
“Thank you for completing your pre-recorded video interview. You should hear from us soon with regards to the outcome.”
So I’m guessing my application has been reviewed and I’m just waiting to hear back?

did you get an offer?
