Sir Keir Starmer and Scottish Labour split over self-ID for trans people

"Sir Keir Starmer has said that he disagrees with Scottish Labour's stance on how trans people should be able to change their legal sex.

On Monday, Labour said it would retain the need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria when an application is made. But Scottish Labour wants to remove the requirement."

This moves no dials.

Hardly a significant split. Outside a small minority of obsessives, few voters place much significance on identity politics. They care about the economy, taxes and public services.

However, Labours issue is that they keep getting embroiled in headlines regarding identity politics such as identifying what a woman actually is, and crap like this.

Is it an issue? Their main target has much more of an issue at least.
I support self ID. While Labour won't commit to it I think they are still pushing things in the right direction by easing the requirements.

I thought Labour was supporting it?

Scottish labour seem to be a bunch of cranks. Why they feel the need to humour those who deny reality (being 'born in the wrong body' indeed) as opposed to using their time to better the country for its citizens is beyond me. By all means give some money to mental health services or some such to help people with this condition but why they think letting any man and his dog identify as whatever they so wish, whenever they wish is beyond me. It helps no one and actively harms those who are genuinely sick with this and need help.
If absolutely nothing else, it will do little more than further undermine the significance of this condition for those who actually have it. Just as letting people self diagnose themselves with adhd, autism or whatnot (always amusing seeing people describe themselves as 'undiagnosed').
After all, wait times are already atrocious for most things, how do you think they will respond to letting anyone join in, so to speak?

Exactly. I agree.
