Thank you, I know they aren't terrible results and I should be happy but it's definitely been a confidence knock, especially with such a big drop in percentage from A1 to B.

I'm hoping my school or the SQA will give me at least the break down of my percentages for each subject. It's more the appeals process I'm confused at as it looks like they are just going to check that marks have been totalled and entered correctly, rather than actually re-mark any papers or take any evidence into consideration.

Currently I'm starting to pursue Drama schools down south as it is the performing arts I want to get into. Luckily this is more audition led than academic grades, however I just feel having A's in English and Drama would have held more weight in my applications.

:hugs:

Once you submit an appeal, a senior marker will carry out a marking review of your SQA-marked assessments.

This is not a re-mark.

A marking review checks that:

all parts of your SQA-assessments have been marked

the marking is in line with national standards

the marks given for each answer have been totalled correctly and

the correct result has been entered on our system.

No, they will not be re-marking your exam, but they will be doing every other check to make sure you have received the correct grade. From what I understand this is to keep the marking process fair to all candidates, regardless of whether they are getting their exam re-marked or not.

Since you say there is more weighting on your audition performance rather than your academic grades, it's best you focus on that whilst you are waiting for the result of the appeal. You still have a chance to make up for your grades with a superb audition. You sound determined and I'm sure you'll succeed. Good luck. :yep:

Thank you so much, I hope so!

I heard that scores could go done after an appeal but this years appeal process is a marking review and not a remark so your marks wouldn't really change unless the senior examiner thinks that you've been under-marked- and not for those looking to go up a grade by 1 or 2 marks, is what the SQA lady told me when I phoned their advice line. So the senior examiner who's in charge of the appeal wouldn't be actively looking to take off your marks, right? And just to make sure the examiner who is in charge of my appeal won't be the same examiner who originally marked my script right?

Hey guys, I really need help to decide whether or not I should appeal one of my results. I sat Highers this year and on results day I was really happy with all of my results except one, which was RMPS. I got a B, which I know is a really good result, just not what I was expecting since I was working at a higher A band 1 all year. I got 94% in my prelim which is really different from the result now- which is 43% on paper 1 but somehow 100% on paper 2- which is so different. RMPS is my most confident subject and I finished answering all the questions and remember walking out of the exam feeling really confident. I don't know how I could've lost so many marks on my best subject. The only thing I think could've resulted in this is an administrative error somewhere or if they couldn't read what I wrote. I really want to appeal but I'm in a difficult situation since I'm only 1 mark above the grade boundary. I already spoke to a teacher and they told me not to appeal. But I really want to appeal and I'm looking for advice and to see if anyone is in a similar situation.

If you are 1 mark above then I would not appeal. The difference between your exams is odd, but if you are looking at unis for the future and you aren't looking to apply to any that want all As in highers, then I think you should be fine. I don't know if I'm making sense at this hour in the morning but am I clear?

Update: I got a band 4 B, so I have decided not to appeal. I had 3 exams in a row (English, RMPS, Chemistry) and was so burnt out.. Chem is one of my strongest subjects so I thought I could get away with not revising :frown: I have definitely learned my lesson and will be using it as motivation for straight A's in higher

Hi,

Thank you for coming back and updating us.

Okay, good decision. It's not worth the risk. Though I hope you realise that a B is still a brilliant grade and you should be very proud of yourself. #BeResultsProud

Exactly, and I'm sure with hard work and dedication you will achieve that A. Good luck. :yep:

Ah yes. Finally was able to get breakdown of percentages. I did terribly compared to prelim. 30/35 in adv maths paper 1 and 46/60 in paper 2. Then 110/155 in adv physics. Still an A I am pleased

Here's some starters...

What subjects/levels did you study?

Hello.

I got an A in Business and Music. B's in maths and chemistry. C in English. All Highers (garbage grades).

Now here's the thing.

I want to apply for Edinburgh University, BUT!

I have a good amount of extra curriculars (silver DofE, grade 7 piano, music theory, summer internship, volunteering and Judo till brown belt).

I'm not entirely sure if Edinburgh is fine with me getting A/B's at advanced higher on the subjects, which I have already gotten an A in.

So for example. Let's say I need 3 A's at Scottish higher levels for a conditional offer.

Can I just get three B's at advanced higher on subjects which I have gotten A's on last year to fill in for that conditional offer?

What course at Edinburgh?
What are the entry requirements?
They'll be on the website.

I only meet the minimum entry requirements which are AABBC (higher level).

The standard entry requirements are AAAAA.

My course that I want is a Maths and business degree.

Can you answer my previous question regarding whether I'm allowed to get an Scottish Higher equivalent of an A, at advanced higher of a subject which I have already gotten an A at higher?

The trouble is Edinburgh want an A in Maths at Higher for that course.
They don't require you to do advanced highers, but they do recommend it.
Are you at the end of S5 now?
In your position, I would do a couple of advanced highers (doesn't necessarily matter which ones) and see if you can re-do or crash some highers at the same time. You could do with at least another A or two to make a really competitive application for Edinburgh.
Again, I'm just looking at that Maths B grade with an element of uncertainty as it's a stated requirement on the website for you to get an A.

I'm now in S6.

I've taken:

- Advanced higher Business
- Advanced higher Maths
- Advanced higher Music
- Higher economics.

Do you think I'll be fine if I just get an A/B at advanced higher Maths alongside two more A's at the equivalent of higher level?

Provided the economics is an A, the Maths is A/B at advanced higher and business is the same, think you would have a competitive application. But I'm not a crystal ball, so don't hold me to that!

Would recommend you use your 5 UCAS applications to apply to unis with a range of entry requirements to give yourself a proper choice when they respond with/without offers. :yy:

I would check with the Uni direct but most don't double count as it were.

If there are no AH requirements they may prefer to go with someone who has all the grades already which is likely under Scottish system.

Don't want to burst your bubble but definitely worth confirming with the Uni direct.

Reply 178

University of Edinburgh do not double count I spoke with them recently. They take the highest grade acheived in the subject over higher and advanced higher. However, it is important to bear in mind that most people applying for Mathematics related degrees at Edinburgh will most likely have achieved 5 A's at Higher and a further 3 A's at advanced higher as it is a highly competitive field at the university
