Congratulations, we look forward to welcoming you in September! 🎉
Hope you are celebrating all your hard work.🤩
Ahead of starting with us, have a look at our welcome page which will give you lots of great guidance and information about life here at UCLan including accommodation.
Hi I got into uclan veterinary medicine 👏🏻 and surgery and was wondering if there was any groups set up for this course or the Roeburn halls 😊
Hey, you must be at the end of your first year now. It would be great to hear from a current student. What is the course structure? I know some vet schools do all anatomy and physiology in first year and then all pathology in second year but some do the anatomy and physiology of only some systems in first year and do the rest of the systems in second year, not covering pathology until third year and I was wondering which UCLan does? Also exam seasons - is there just one exam period at the end of the year in the summer or do you also have a set of exams (that count) in January, as I know some vet schools do this?
First of all congratulations for getting into vet school at UCLan 🤩
The course is designed to follow a spiral curriculum, which means that each year, you'll revisit and expand upon what you've learned before, gradually building your knowledge.
In the first and second years, you'll cover all the animal systems. In the first year, the focus is on the anatomy and physiology of small animals and exotics, while in the second year, it shifts to large animals. You'll also start practicing clinical skills from the first year, along with learning animal handling skills during your weekly rotations. As you progress to the third year, the focus becomes more clinical, and you'll continue to build upon what you've learned in previous years.
In the academic year 2023/2024, vet students had three exam sessions (and they all counted!): December 2023, March 2024, and May/June 2024 (the final exams 📚️!). However, these dates might vary depending on the academic calendar, Easter breaks, and staff availability. Each exam session will test you on clinical skills, an anatomy steeplechase, and written exams.
If you have time, on August 18, 2024, between 9 AM and 3 PM, you can explore Preston Campus, meet the vet school staff, and chat with students at the Veterinary Medicine August Open Day. It's completely free, and you can book your spot at this link: https://www.uclan.ac.uk/open-days/vet-open-day-preston-aug
How are you? Just wanted to introduce myself and let you know if you have any questions about applying for our Veterinary Medicine course or about student life here at UCLan, I'd be happy to help. 😊
