Aqa Alevel Economics Remark 2023

For the last two years I've consistently been on track for an A* in Alevel Economics which is why I thought I would get an A* in the actual thing but I ended up getting an A. I know an A is still very good but I was confident in that A* of mine. I am 7 marks off the A* and when I looked at my script I honestly felt as though my examiner was way too harsh. Some people in my class who I've consistently outscored ( no offence to them ) ended up getting an A*. Would a remark be worth it ?

7 marks is not childsplay and whatever you may feel about the examiner you need specific areas where you were undermarked and solid reasons why if you are going to get upmarked

even if that is the case, you are quite unlikely to get the full 7 marks worth and if you don't gain any marks its money for nothing - especially if you got into your firm choice (or a university you're happy with)?

you may just have done slightly below your expected when it came to this one time

speak to your teacher aka get a professional opinion

Economics can be quite subjective. Ask your teacher for their opinion on the marking. And if they're in favour then go for a remark.

hey I am having the exact same situation right now, did you get a remark? I read my script and I’m outraged because I memorised an essay which got 25/25 from my teacher who is also a chief examiner, then it was given 15/25 from this one for the exact same essay to the exact same question without a good explanation?? I feel the same as you like the marking was crazy overall. I’ve been trying to get in touch with my teacher for a professional opinion because some of it looks ridiculous- ie. they would give me 6/9 but i genuinely could not have said any more without completely going off from the question. It is annoying me because I got ≈90% in basically all my other a level papers, but then for economics (the one i tried the hardest for) i got an awful percentage. they asked closed questions and i answered them directly, If i hadn’t have done that, they would have complained that I was getting away from the question.

same😭😭what are you thinking of doing? because econ is very subjective i think there is a chance i could go up but it is also expensive for a grade i don’t really need necessarily

If you can’t get in touch with your teacher is there anyone else ? Does the school have a designated contact for remarks? I’d be emailing all & sundry until someone assists you and gives you advise and can look at your scripts with you- best of luck

hey thanks for this!! i have forwarded the email to the other economics teachers in my college & also my neighbour who teaches it at A level! I definitely want an opinion before putting it through just for surety and to see how likely it is that I’ll go up.

Good luck - time is of the essence now so I hope they respond - if you haven’t heard by 9:30 tomorrow I’d be ringing the school/college and demanding (politely) that someone assists, they surely should have had a designated contact for you all.

ahh ty i’ll keep that in mind!! i’ve honestly been reflecting and i’m ok with the A even though I feel slightly hard done by. Honestly the last thing i want is for the grade to go down to a B if ykwim (especially because i’d have to gain quite a few marks)😭. also i got my a* in my other subjects so i think the difference between a*a*a*a and 4a* is marginal:smile:) i’m pretty content now i was just shocked when i read the script tbh. i’m applying to uni now so it also isn’t necessary for any conditional offer (if it was then i’d have been at aqa’s doors on results day aha)

okay change of plan one of my teachers responded and he was shocked too😭😭i’ve put it through so i’ll update if it goes up!!! he read the whole script and said it was all ridiculously under-marked (not even in the right band) which is encouraging for my remark prospects but also annoying that they marked it so badly
