it's a widening participation scheme, which results in a lower grade offer and (usually) a lower ucat threshold. it's for home students only

Hi guys I'm looking at potentially applying to Newcastle. Problem is I am a resit applicant with current achieved grades of ABB and I can see that Newcastle doesn't allow for people to resit more than 1 subject, am I correct in saying this?
However I am eligible for the partners program I believe and so therefore for that I would meet the academic requirements right?

The only issue is that from what I can see on their website the eligibility criteria for the partners programme seems quite broad and generous and as a result I feel a high amount of people will be applying through this route. I just feel like there's a catch in this otherwise it seems way too generous. I'm guessing they only permit a small number of people through this route? or the competition ratio to get in through this route is a good bit higher? I've tried researching but not been able to get much more information. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

with partners, there is no limit on the number of applicants they can take, so everyone who meets the eligibility is accepted. the competition mustn't be that high, as for the last few years at least, the partners ucat cutoff has been lower than the standard one.

I'm an international student and achieved 3000 B2 in UCAT, do you think I have a good chance of getting an interview?

well, I’d suppose you are extremely likely to get an interview from Newcastle.

Where did you see that Newcastle allows only one subject to be resat? Would you mind linking your source? And did you end up applying to Newcastle in the end?

Are you sure? It says that they want people to get the grades first time obv, but they allow a (meaning one no?) subject to be repeated once. Looking back now actually I do understand what you mean, but if that is the case I feel like the wording is not the best... I would've applied otherwise. Don't get why they didn't just say they want at the very least initial grades of BBB

I’ll check with them tomorrow but I’m pretty sure that’s what they meant

You can resit all of them once, you just need an A* in any resat

Hey! Lovely to see that you’re still helping medical applicants. I remember you from when I was applying to Newcastle and now I’m the role of the interviewer. Truly is a full circle! Hope you’re well

Hi @anonym1

Ideally, applicants to our Medicine and Surgery MB BS (A100) programme should have achieved the necessary A level grades at the first attempt as an indicator that the applicant will be able to manage the intensity of the course.

We recognise that circumstances mean that, occasionally, students underperform. As a result, we allow each subject to be repeated once. Applicants are not required to inform us of the circumstances around their resits. However, if a subject is being undertaken for a second time after further study, the expectation is of a higher level of performance. Therefore, the grade requirement from the University will also increase by a grade e.g. A to A*. As such, for example an applicant resitting two A Levels would be required to be predicted/achieved A*A*A overall.

For further information, please read the Resit Qualifications section of the School of Medicine Admissions Policy.

Hope this helps
