haha hopefully it should go alright! I'm quite bad at maths when put on the spot so I'm not happy for that side of things at all

you'll do brilliantly - i had mine last week and just got my offer today
the interviews are actually really casual, and if you're nervous just let your interviewer know - they'll pick up on it either way. my interviewer was really nice and didn't mind that i was nervous at the start, and once i got into the conversation it was much much easier to chat - after all, you're just sharing a passion for your subject

formality wise it doesn't really matter - i wore formal trousers and a jumper since i didn't want to be cold and that's what school recommended but there were lots of people just in t shirts and jeans, it's not something they focus on

plus you get a free mug so what's not to love?

Will PM you !

To anon and @sadfailure Good luck in the your physics interviews tomorrow. It really is a relaxed day. Everyone will make you feel welcome. I remember when my daughter went in 2019 and it was a lovely day. We got shown around the campus and the physics dept, as well as a talk on the uni and Lancaster. You will enjoy tomorrow 🙂 lancaster unis video on the physics interview
Worth watching the video. I did take part in the bespoke programme and there was a talk about the history of lancaster uni and the colleges for us guests which was very insightful. They also talked about how there is 200 physics students admitted and also the internship opportunities involved and how Lancaster helps them in getting some internships. Shes now a fourth year and is getting the support for her phd applications, again all thanks to the university. Physics at Lancaster has been brilliant for her. She had an interview at oxford back then, and oxford was like so very formal setting and made her feel nervous and it was just math question/physics question, then done. Where at Lancaster it was like more engaging with the staff and she could tell they were really invested in what she had to say.

Thank you so much for this, it was really as great as you said! The ambassadors were all really nice, especially this one guy from Cyprus (wow!), along with the academics. I was surprised at how simple the question was - I had to derive the decay equation which wasn't bad at all!

Free mug was an awesome bonus, really cool design as well

same as me! my interviewer was lovely and i do think it depends on the interviewer - one other person aced his questions but the interviewer said he wouldn't need a grade reduction because he was able to do those, while i finished my question and my interviewer gave me a grade reduction because she liked the way i went about it (i think, at least)
guess we got lucky

Feeling very anxious about my interview. It says on the letter that if you can't make the interview they will just give you their standard offer. My question is, if I really mess up the interview because I freeze with anxiety, would they just make their standard offer, or might I wreck my chance of an offer completely? ☹️

Hi Anon,

It is rare that the interview goes so badly that your offer is revoked. It is your interest to attend the interview for your chance to improve on your offer and also for the chance to see the department and university for yourself. The lecturers (interviewers) are all very friendly and will do their best to help you out if you get stuck. I understand being nervous as I was myself but I was put more at ease in the first few minutes with some small talk at the beginning of my interview. The interviewers will understand that you may be nervous so I'd try not to worry about that too much. I found it helpful to ask the lecturer about their research to begin with as it gave me a few minutes to compose myself. The interviewers are all active researchers so will likely be very willing to speak to you about their work.

Hope that helps!

Hi. My son has an offer for Economics, Politics and IR at Lancaster and is thinking of making it his firm choice. My only concerns are i’ve been told campus can be very quiet at the weekend as lots of people go home, and is it difficult to find good accommodation for years 2/3?
Any thoughts appreciated!

Hi,

Personally, I didn't go home every weekend. There may be people who do but I don't think it's the case for the majority of people. On the weekends I went to societies including baking, cricket and dr who. Finding student accommodation in town wasn't too bad when I was an undergraduate a couple of years ago.

Hope that helps

Hi there,
Applied for Politics and sociology next year having deferred from 2023. Slightly nervous as didn’t study politics at A level but am highly interested in it. Will I be hindered in terms of fellow students as I won’t have studied Politics at a level in comparison to others?

Hello, I applied to study geography at Lancaster and have received an offer. I’m really disappointed that the offer doesn’t consider my EPQ which is predicted an A. I thought that Lancaster considered the EPQ for most courses and it generally resulted in a one grade reduction in the offer. Is it worth me contacting admissions?
