Hello, I applied to study geography at Lancaster and have received an offer. I’m really disappointed that the offer doesn’t consider my EPQ which is predicted an A. I thought that Lancaster considered the EPQ for most courses and it generally resulted in a one grade reduction in the offer. Is it worth me contacting admissions?

it varies year to year, they didn't consider my EPQ either for physics and i have an achieved A*
maybe they haven't done that this year? no idea really, if other people are also in the same position then there may be no point in contacting admissions

Any chance I could see what a typical timetable of a first year Politics and Sociology student looks like?!
Many thanks,
Finley

Hi!

As someone already mentioned, we do usually consider EPQs for most subjects, however, that may very well change at any time and may be dependent on the year and the number of applicants that year. You would be best placed to reach out to the admissions team to ask about this as they are better versed on these types of issues.

I have included a link to the admissions team page which contains their contact information as well.

Best wishes,
Glory.

My offer is to study English lit and film, and I had a one grade deduction with my EPQ so I’m assuming it’s dependent on the subject you’re studying??

Hello,
Congratulations on your offer to study at Lancaster! Yes it is often dependent on the subject you're studying as the university sees the importance of completing an extended piece of writing, especially in your writing based subject!

Good luck for the future,

Hi, does Lancaster uni do interviews for mechanical and mechatronics engineering applications?

Thank you so much! Theyre in a way urging me to raise my offer to a MEng course as my predicted grades are quite high, but the safety of Bs is very comforting so I may keep it and see if I can raise it post results day. Do you know anything about student life in Lancaster by any chance? Not too many videos online!

Hi Anon,

If you are interested in the MEng variation of the degree, you can accept an offer for MEng with the reassurance that if you don’t meet the grades for MEng, the admissions team will automatically consider you for the BSc course. The offer condition would specifically state this.

Hope that helps!

Hi I want to apply for International Business management but the requirements are ABB and I have BBC predicted with gcse 987766654 would i be offered a place

Hi Anon,

I have spoken to the admissions team for you. They would welcome an application from you, with a good chance that you would receive an offer.

When I was applying my school recommended that we apply to a range of different entry requirements with relation to our predicted grades. It was something like one or two aspirational applications (so ones with slightly higher grade boundaries than your predicted), one safety net (lower entry requirements than your predicted) and then the rest should be around the level of your predicted grades. How useful this advice is my vary from person to person but hopefully it should leave you with a large range should your exams go better or worse than expected.

Hope that helps!

Hi there, I initially planned on attending this year but deferred to 2024 due to possibly wanting to change from sociology and criminology to sociology and politics, after attending open days is this possible? Any other politics applicants!!?

Hi @FinWils5

Have you already applied?

If you’re interested in changing course, send an email to [email protected] and they will look into it, even if you’re not certain you want to change and are just exploring your options at this stage.

Hope this helps!

same as me! my interviewer was lovely and i do think it depends on the interviewer - one other person aced his questions but the interviewer said he wouldn't need a grade reduction because he was able to do those, while i finished my question and my interviewer gave me a grade reduction because she liked the way i went about it (i think, at least)
guess we got lucky

Hi @asqwdfrgthjk

Congratulations on your grade reduction! If you have any questions about Lancaster Physics feel free to ask here

Hi there,
Applied for Politics and sociology next year having deferred from 2023. Slightly nervous as didn’t study politics at A level but am highly interested in it. Will I be hindered in terms of fellow students as I won’t have studied Politics at a level in comparison to others?

Hi @FinWils5

I study physics so whilst I have no experience of politics & sociology I would expect the first year content to be aimed to bring everyone up to speed. At least that was my experience in physics.

If your offer doesn’t ask for an a level in politics then the admissions team and lecturers in the department believe that you have the potential to do well on the course without politics a level. Not all colleges/schools will offer politics so not all students will have had the chance to formally study it before.

If you’re concerned you could do some reading over the summer before you start or email the department directly to ask for their advice.

Hope this helps!

Hi @FinWils5

I am not sure whether this is possible. If you contact the department they should be able to let you know if they have any mock timetables or whether they can give a description of what to expect in first year.

You can contact the Politics, Philosophy and Religion department at [email protected]
