Thank you. I'm a little confused about how firm choice and insurance choice actually work. What if I don't meet the conditions for the choices?

Hi!

Congratulations on your offer!

Your firm choice is the university that is your first choice and the place you most want to go to. If you accept a conditional offer and meet the conditions, you'll have a confirmed place there.

If you don’t meet the conditions for your firm choice, then you have your insurance choice. This is your second choice university that you’ll go to if you don’t meet the conditions of your firm choice, but meet the conditions of your insurance choice.

If you don’t meet the conditions for your firm or insurance choice universities, then you’ll be automatically placed into Clearing. This is then how you will have to apply for a university course.

I hope this helps!

Yes, thank you! How can I decide on accommodation?

Hi @GayleB
I'd first recommend choosing which style of accommodation you would like to live in eg. ensuite, townhouse or shared bathroom. There's lots of pictures of what the different types of accommodation look like on this website. Undergraduate - Lancaster University.
Then next I'd decide what college you would prefer to live in, this may be based on where on campus you might like to live, eg. if you'd like to live in the center of campus i'd recommend Bowland, Furness or Fylde, or if you'd prefer to live a bit further away i'd recommend Lonsdale or Cartmel.
You'll be sent an email inviting you to apply for accommodation in early June.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!

Hi, is the 'freedom eats' card worth it, to have one, two or three catered meals a day, even though you don't select catered accommodation? It says saves up to 50% Off meals at various outlets on campus, do you really get meals for half price? Thanks

Hi @Heloha41

I think it depends on your own situation and opinion. If you’re certain you’d want catered then it may be easier to book onto catered accommodation. However, if you only want it occasionally or after you’re already living in self catered or off campus accommodation then it would be a good option to buy a freedom card.

I have heard of people buying a weeks freedom card for times when they are especially stressed or busy, for example in exam season.

According to the website you can buy cards for a week, or termly. https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/eat/discounts/freedom/#what-happens-if-i-miss-a-meal-579820-4

With the freedom card you pay a fee in advance and then redeem the card against eligible meals. So depending on the retail price on the meals if you were to buy them on the day means you can save up to 50%

Hope that helps!

Hi. I have a place at Lancaster University for MORSE. Is the list of modules on the official Lancaster University website exhaustive?

Reply 296

My Son has a place on the MORSE course. As far as I can see from the information he has the modules in Y1 are compulsory and you don't choose any electives. For year 2 there are 7 core modules as shown on the website and one elective which has to be taken from any of the 3 major depts. In year 3 there is only one compulsory and at least 1 module should come from each of the 3 major depts (I think this includes the compulsory Maths one) Up to 30 credits can come from the wider uni - each module is 15 credits so I assume 2 of the 7 optionals can be outside the 3 major depts.
To me this implies that the list of available electives could be more extensive that that shown on the Website for MORSE as the modules listed for each major department are more extensive. However there may be some y2 and y3 modules in the major departments which can only be taken if you have completed the appropriate y1 module and hence are not available to MORSE students. I understand that more info will be sent out closer to the start of term.
