I think it was the first Physics interview/tour/department day today. It was fully booked by the time I went to book mine!

How did it all go? What was involved in the day (beyond the interview)? Was it a long day? How did it all go? Was it interesting?
I am very excited about doing this next month!

Hi All, I Applied to Lancaster for A100. But I didn't receive any confirmation from the university whether they received my application or not? Are they usually send any email when they receive an application for A100? Please let me know

Hi @teletubbies1238

Did you get this resolved? You are supposed to receive an email confirmation. Have you double-checked your junk folder? If you don't have an email, please email [email protected], or - because the Medicine team are very busy working through applications - you can also email [email protected] and they can check.

Thank you for your reply and advice - I was a bit stuck on what to do as I would really like to study the Masters.

Hi Anon,

During the interview days, there are staff on hand that can answer physics admissions questions. Just ask any of the student ambassadors or staff on the day and we can point you to the right person to ask. Alternatively, you can ask in your interview. At the end of my interview I was asked if I wanted to move to the MPhys course. I had originally applied to the BSc but wanted to be on the MPhys. A few days later I had an offer for the MPhys so in my experience it is possible to swap courses during the interview

Hope that helps

I’m doing an extended diploma in computing, predicted a DDD. I would like to do a degree in software engineering. But I don’t know if meeting just the requirements would get me in.

Hi Anon,

Are you studying for a BTEC qualification? The entry requirements stated on the website for software engineering bsc hons g602 is BTEC: Disctinction, Distinction, Distinction. From your message it sounds like you would meet the entry requirements and so would have a good chance at getting an offer.

The admissions team would consider your application as a whole, including your GCSE profile. You would need to have GCSE Maths grade B/6 and GCSE English C/4.
If you're at all unsure, you're welcome to contact [email protected] with a full list of your GCSEs, and they'd be really happy to give you an indication of how likely it is that you would receive an offer.

Hope that helps!

Hey just wanted to know that say if i apply for MSc data science course which requires AAA(and i am predicted A*A*AB) and for some reason they think they cant offer me a place for MSc course, will they still consider offering me a place for BSc Data science?

Hi Anon,

If the admissions team are unable to offer you a place on the MSc then they will always automatically consider you for a place on the BSc. Additionally, if they make you an offer for the MSc and you don't meet your offer condition, they will automatically consider you for the BSc too. We don't want applicants to worry about taking a risk in applying for the higher variant of a course.

Hope that helps!

Its great to get a perspective on what you'd study, even if its not necessarily available the year I study - thanks

I have a question about interviews - what kind of format is it? Is it mostly question based for physics or more like a guided conversation? I understand you wouldn't be able to give me lots of information and that's completely understandable, but I feel like I'm going to be going in blind since there's very little information online and not much interview support from school for non-medicine applications.

Hi @asqwdfrgthjk

No problem, I understand what you mean. When I applied the only real advice the school had was for medicine or oxbridge. In my interview I was asked about my personal statement and then 2 physics questions. However, it was more of a conversation around the 2 questions. I.e. I told them my initial thoughts and then we worked through it together to get to an answer. It is not just about whether you get the right answers but, it is also a chance for you to show that you are able to think through problems logically. The interview is also for your benefit, you can ask anything that you'd like to know from the interviewer and the rest of the day that is built around the interview is also designed to help give you a good feel for Lancaster. I'd recommend reading over your personal statement before going but the questions could be based on anything so my best advice is to try and relax into the interview and don't be afraid to tell the interviewer what you think the answer might be. That will give you a good starting point and they can talk with you about the question and guide you in the right direction. You can also ask the interviewer about their research. I did that at the start of my interview and found it really helpful as it gave me a minute to relax a bit and compose myself at the start of the interview.

The interview itself won't be more than half an hour. The rest of the day is composed of tours, demos and taster talks. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable and informative day

Hope that helps!
