fountain halls - university of portsmouth 2023

anyone recently been in fountain halls for accommodation because the reviews for recent years have been really good but the older reviews are quite bad but I need to know if they are good for sure as I'm a clearing applicant and the accommodation given to me from the uni wasn't the best and is just looking within the private sector.

Hi, I’ve applied through cleaning and just booked with them. Im hoping it’s decent but if not at the end of the day it’s somewhere fairly cheap to stay at.

Hi! Did you end up staying there? Is it alright?

Hello,
I didn't end up staying there, I just went through with what the university gave me and then kept tabs with the housing team and ended moving accoms in January.

Hi, I know that not everyone has the option of staying in our halls of residence due to capacity/cost etc. but please be careful when looking at private halls of residence, and check the contract before signing. Our housing team can't do as much to help you if something goes wrong with private halls as they can with our affiliated halls.

They can sometimes seem cheap but then get you with hidden costs!

Anything specific with FH you’ve heard of before? Or are you aware of or anything I should looks out for in general. I’ve tried to be as careful as possible but there is so many other factors that goes into preparing for uni it could be easy to miss something.

Not FH specific but I know that they tie you into longer contacts so that you have to pay more long term, they can charge you for things more easily and they are much harder to get out of the contract.

Definitely look at the contract length and work out the total cost, ask if there are any other fees you have to pay.

I'd recommend contacting our housing team and asking what they'd do in your situation and what's the safest way to get private accommodation.
