Hello,

I'll be starting my PGDE (Secondary. History and Modern Studies) next year. I currently have an offer from Strathclyde and am waiting to hear from Glasgow.

Does anyone know what the relative reputations of each uni? Specifically for PGDEs.

Thank you

I asked the same and was told 2 separate payments taken from gross earnings before tax

I asked elsewhere and I apparently pay towards both at the same time but the amount is split between the two plans. The amount I earn above the plan 5 threshold but below the plan 2 threshold goes towards my plan 5 loan, the amount above the plan 2 threshold goes towards my plan 2 loan. Not as bad as I originally thought.

No idea if this is accurate, but it makes sense. Would seem unfair to pay towards both plans above the threshold 2 threshold as that would be an extra few hundred a year on £35000.

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to throw my hat into the ring and say I’ve applied for school direct teacher training 🙂
Does anyone know how long it normally takes for them to receive your application to interview? Thanks!

I've started to gets bit more information about my course now which I'm happy about. Still wanting the timetable and school placement so I can plan the rest of year a bit better but with less than 2 months until it starts, I'm starting to look forward to it!

Im going to Durham by the way, but much of what we have to do in preparation for the course is identical to Newcastle Uni.

How is everyone else feeling?

Hi. Please I need your assistance asap.
I would be having my interview soon for a pgce physics course. Please, what should I expect in the subject knowledge section of the interview. For example, will the questions require me to solve physics problems, what physics topics should I pay more attention to, useful tips e.t.c. If you know anyone that has done an interview for pgce physics, please help me enquire.
Thank you.

It really depends where you are doing it. Different unis will have different interview styles.

Hi actually I’m trying to pgce in social science . For January 2025 intake I secured place at university of Essex ( MA Politics ) ,but after research I came to know job after MA or Funded PhD after MA is very difficult. So I thought of taking safe route and got to know about PGCE QTS . I heard that employment rate after that is more than 60% even in SOCIAL SCIENCE. Can you please clarify the chances of employment after this course

Look up and read the teachers standards before you go. You won't be tested on it, but knowledge of them may be helpful.

Be honest.

Write down the question before you answer it. Refer back to this question at the end of your answer to check that you've answered it.

They will want to see that you understand what's ahead of you, that you are aware of what a PGCE training programme is like in terms of its demands and what the teaching world is like. Use your work experience in a school to help you with this.
