Hi! Does anyone know when and we're supposed to get advanced DBS checks for our uni course? Do need to them before results day to ensure we're admitted? Also, when should we have our vaccination records all set?

You need to wait until you have a confirmed place on results day. Your uni should then contact you to start the enrolment process, which for healthcare students will include the DBS check. My DD went to Liverpool and she was sent a link to an external company to complete the DBS check. Her health check had to be completed before starting placements and that's when they reviewed the vaccination record.

Thank you so much that makes sense!

Applications are open now and you can apply up to six months after the start of your course. Wait until your eligibility for student finance is confirmed before you apply. If you leave it until you have finished your exams, you will have plenty of time.

Hey guys. I’ve recently decided to apply for the pre reg masters and I know it’s very late. Just wondering if there’s any point? I’m applying to Essex and AECC as they seem to be the only ones still accepting applications that are not more than 3 hours from Bristol.

Hey - I haven’t applied to your choices so I cannot tell you if places are full but if they’re still accepting applications there’s still some hope! Given September is not too far away now I’d imagine they would’ve closed applications if places were fully confirmed. Worst case scenario - if you don’t get in this year you could ask for feedback so you have some advantage next year.

Also, have you considered Birmingham City uni? I think applications technically closed on 31st May but the application portal still seems to be active. Course starts in January so they’re more likely to accept a late application at this time of the year

Hey thank you! I did consider Birmingham but I was put off by the 31st deadline. I think you’re right though, it is still open and worth applying to. Hopefully I can submit my application by next week and just hope for the best. It’s not the end of the world if I don’t get accepted this year.

Hi!! a few months ago I accepted a place at Man Met uni for my masters, however I’ve been waiting for them to confirm my place for a while. It says it will be confirmed if I meet their conditions however I haven’t been sent anything. Is anyone having a similar issue so I don’t massively panic? X 😬

Can anyone recommend a good laptop for a new speech therapy student?

Heyy! I don't know any but I feel like any would do as long as there's enough storage and a great mic. I'm wondering are there any material such as textbooks or books we can read on SLT that is a great introduction to the degree? Plus do you guys think getting a tablet or iPad is necessary for this course?

Yeah thanks🙂 I haven't done any reading but I recommend looking at the modules pages for your course because on mine I can see a list of all the essential and recommended textbooks

I guess an iPad/tablet could be useful but personally I'm not getting one

I'm not sure if you can access these links but these are the reading lists I found for my first year 🙂

If you're applying to uni for Speech and Language Therapy for 2024 entry, introduce yourself to fellow applicants, ask questions and share your experience of applying so far:
Undergraduate or post graduate course?
Which universities are you (hoping) to apply for? Entry requirements?
Firm choice?
Insurance choice?
Work/shadowing experience?
Anything else?
Share as little or as much as you are comfortable with.
Please don't share details of interview questions on the forum - it gives those who follow you an unfair advantage.
@CamembertPaws FYI
Hi,

I will be studying the postgraduate MSc speech and language therapy 2024-25.

When applying for student finance it wouldn’t let me apply as it said that applications are not open until the summer and therefore I can’t apply for the NHS support fund. Has anyone else had the same? I’m just worried it’s a bit late ?

Also does anyone know of any student groups either on WhatsApp or Facebook? I tried to look but couldn’t find anything.
X

For funding, it’ll be open but you need to apply via the undergraduate route, not masters. Allied health is funded via the undergraduate system instead!

Has anyone else noticed UCLan charges more than is awarded by SFE for tuition fees? This is for the MSc

I've been approved for the NHS bursary which I'm going to put towards the fees but that then leaves me with less living money and with the state of things at the minute I'm worried about surviving 😬

Are there any other bursaries etc. people are aware of?
