Had my feedback through for PD FSB, unfortunately didn’t pass. No mention of Direct Appointment Scheme for near misses on the email. Anyone else who didn’t pass FSB and had their feedback through was there any mention of DAS? I’m concerned they might not run it this year due to recruitment freezes across the CS.

Sorry to hear that. Honestly, I don't think that anyone really knows how recruitment freezes will impact DAS this year.

Looking at the Civil Service subreddit it seems that many departments are closing up shop for external candidates up until atleast the next financial year. I read a post today about someone who's been given a conditional offer but no contract still in limbo about whether they'll be signed on or not in light of these external freezes.

There's also this post which is helpful and could shed some light on the concerns of recruitment freezes. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheCivilService/comments/1c76e5v/defra_confirms_freeze_on_external_recruitment/

Many candidates who had done interviews and tests were placed in reserve lists rather than outright succesful, seems like a way for the departments to say they passed but don't have capacity to increase department numbers.

All in all there probably isn't much way of knowing. Just cross your fingers and keep applying to other jobs! Hoping for the best mate:smile:

Does anyone know what promotion salaries look like for those on the finance scheme? thanks (let's say you get a grade 7 offer)

Probably best to take a look on civilservicejobs.service.gov.uk and look for finance roles at Grade 7 to get a feel for salary ranges. Obviously they'll be different in 3-4 years but the Fast Stream website says to expect a salary of £45-£55K once off the scheme. 😊

Hey everyone - today it's been 2 months since I've been waiting to hear back from the GSS. The wait is killing me, and I would be told I'd hear back 'soon'. The GSS gives you a score and I had a score higher enough to be 'recommended for appointment' and yet I still haven't heard anything - I'm guessing this means I wasn't exceptional enough to be automatically given a place but there's still hope... if anyone has any words of encouragement to make me feel better that would be much appreciated. A couple of weeks ago I did the science and engineering FSB which I think went really well so fingers crossed for that too. I would just like some financial security in knowing what I'm doing next or if I have to apply for other jobs, the wait feels really unjustly cruel if it's just to get rejected after this :frown:(

Hopefully someone from the mod team will "sticky" this new thread for the 2024 application window. (tagged below for ease)
Looks like there are changes afoot for Fast Stream recruitment for 2024.
Looking at the website, there is no "Generalist" scheme anymore. Instead there is a Policy option along with an Operational Delivery option (Operational Delivery has limited locations though)
Other schemes appear to be the same.
The website confirms applications will open at noon on 12th October until noon on 9th November, so now is a good time to research the schemes you may want to apply for!
I've now finished my Fast Stream journey, but always happy to answer either general questions or those related to Project Delivery.

when do they open the application for 2025 intake and what are the start date

Hey! I've seen in other threads from previous years that people don't receive offers until the end of May so hang in there! It's an achievement to make it this far regardless but you still have two options remaining. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine. 🙂

No idea when 2025 applications open but historically it's September/October and you'd start autumn the following year.

Hey! Yeah, I completed my PECs & security clearance a while back (surprised how quickly they did it!). No, they didn't contact any of my references, which I'm glad about as I also don't want my current employer to know I'm leaving until I give them my notice. Take this with a pinch of salt, but I don't believe they contact references unless they need to verify information (e.g., your stated employment history doesn't match HMRC records). 😊

I'm not sure if this change depending on your scheme or if you've given academic or employer references etc. but my understanding is that they do contact your references

Potentially! I provided employer references so unsure if that changes things.

I’m in third year of university, so I’ve not been formally employed before. I’ve only done unpaid internships and work shadowing stuff. When they’re doing pre employment checks, will they pick up on this and potentially rescind my offer?

Hi Emily. No this will not negatively impact your onboarding. They may simply contact the referees down to verify this. You put twopersonal referees and an academic or professional. in your case they would most likely contact a personal and academic to askand verify you have been in uni.

There's no requirement to have been previously employed. They ask for different types of references depending on your situation, so there's nothing to worry about.

I was unsuccessful at FSB but told that I am on the reserve list should any of the successful candidates pull out/ have a change of circumstances etc. - what are the chances of this happening?

So sorry to hear that Liv. I can't really answer the question about the chances of anyone pulling out, but I know that for the HMRC TSP scheme, I saw people say they got on to the program from the reserve list, so I guess it is always a possibility as some people may have multiple offers or personal reasons for pulling out.

Depends what stream specifically. There’s always a chance but I’d take it as a rejection so you don’t get your hopes up too much x

Thank you. It's for HoP so tbh I doubt anybody would pull out unless they had a serious change in circumstances. I thankfully got another offer from Government Policy (my 2nd choice) so at least I am not walking away with nothing.
