MP Chris Pincher resigns after losing appeal against proposed Commons suspension

Former Conservative party whip Chris Pincher resigned his seat today after losing his appeal against a proposed eight-week Commons suspension for drunkenly groping two men.

If MPs had approved the recommendation to suspend him (which is usually a formality), it would have resulted in a recall petition which could have led to a by-election.

This now means the government will face its ninth by-election since Rishi Sunak became prime minister; in Tamworth this time.

So who is favourite to win this one, Labour or Lib Dem?

It's a safe Tory seat - in 2019 the majority was over 19,000.
'Good'?, not a lot to debate here really unless you're pro sex offender.
One of the more unfortunate examples of nominative determinism.

There's no guarantee they'll all come out to vote though. That appears to be essentially what happened in the recent Selby byelection. The big reduction in turnout was approximately equivalent to the loss in Tory vote. A relatively small increase in the Labour vote (at the expense of the Lib Dems) resulted in a big swing to Labour. So this seat could well fall to another party.
