IMPORTANT EDIT: This post is not intended to be boastful in any way. I am just trying to help people get these grades because I think that if you’re reading this you absolutely can. I read a lot of these posts when I was in year 10 and 11 and I found them really helpful and inspiring which was my intention when creating this post.

Hi, I'm currently a year 12 student studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and CS and I got all 9s at GCSE. The subjects I took this year were:
Further Maths (AQA)
English Lang (Edexcel IGCSE)
English Lit (Edexcel IGCSE)
Bio (Edexcel IGCSE)
Chem (Edexcel IGCSE)
Physics (Edexcel IGCSE)
Geography (Cambridge IGCSE)
DT (AQA)
Economics (Edexcel IGCSE)
CS (AQA)

I also had three more GCSEs from previous years:
Maths (Edexcel IGCSE)
Spanish (Edexcel IGCSE)
French (Edexcel IGCSE)

Disclaimers:
Technically Geography was an A* because I did the old spec which is graded using A*-G. For the languages I will say that I am fluent in both so I think that rlly helped me especially as I did them early. This post is not meant to brag by any means, I'm here to answer all the questions that you have about GCSEs, my study process, etc. and I will say that my grades were the product of years of intense hard work and effort.

If anyone is wondering what my best exam was in terms of percentage, it was Further Maths in which I got 98% and lost 3 marks total. I got the exact same percentage in Maths too so I think that that is my strongest subject.

A subject that I could probably give a lot of advice on is English as it did not come naturally to me and I had to work super hard in order to get the grade that I got. Unfortunately, English Lit in particular wasn't as high as I had hoped but I still managed to scrape a 9.

Please ask me any question you want. It could be related to a certain subject or just general exam advice. I hope I can help!

hi there!

firstly, congrats on getting all 9s!! and good luck in y12 and y13.

I'm in y10 and i have an entrance exam soon for a grammar school and for science, i was given the topics making materials, plant growth and a few more.

Making materials and plant growth seems a little vague as there are many subtopics under that so do you by any chance have any suggestions on whta to revise and how to revise as the test is on this friday.

thank you!
Please show proof before making such a post

Im doing DT AQA aswell, how did you revise/ get a 9 in the coursework, Im struggling a lot on the coursework right now, do you have any specific templates you followed to create your coursework. Thanks

im doing aqa dt too

im finding it quite hard with the time commitment of it

hi im actually suffering with dt at the minute. my teacher wants me to make a design SPECIFICation without being specific, because she wants me to add to it later. this genuinely confused me so much, do you know what she meant by that? also, how on earth do i learn the entire theory side of things when we have learnt next to nothing in class? my teacher stops literally every minute to tell someone off in my class and we are about two whole terms behind the other classes.

Try flashacrds and see what you make of them. Digital ones are far more convenient and helpful to remember things long term.

Themes is much better, include relevant characters for each themes. Also think about what each character represents and the relationships they have with other characters.

I had two sets of mocks: in November and in March. I pretty much started studying intensely from September and I kept going until June. I think I did take like a month off in December but after that I continued to study quite a lot. I understand that this is not for everyone and I’m not saying that you have to do this by any means as I was very burnt out during GCSEs but it worked for me.

However, I do think you should start now but it doesn’t have to be as high intensity as I did.

If you want a rough idea of how much time I put in. I didn’t do anything in December but apart from that my lower intensity months were September, January and February. I did roughly 2 hours on school days and 6 hours (per day) on weekends. My highest intensity months were October, November, March, April, May and June where I did 3 hours on school days and 8 hours on weekends (including study leave). I had a couple of days that even stretched to 9 hours but I would not recommend it.

Do you have any tips for how to increase revision intensity? I’m currently doing around 2 hours on school nights and 4 hours a day at weekends but want to push this to 3 hours a night and 8/9 hours a day at weekends.

Do you have any tips for English Language? For me it's so hard to absorb all the information from the extracts, and then put them into paragraphs.

Hi,
Firstly, that's amazing!
Second: I'm predicted an 8 in both English lit and lang. My teacher would like to me get to a 9 and so would I- problem is that I got a 7 in my first lit mock in year 10. My next round are coming up soon, so I was wondering if you could give any tips on structuring an essay, any key terminology, or ways you specifically studied ENGLISH LIT. Thanks so much.

If you have such a problem with my post, I will delete it because I’m fed up with this and don’t want to argue anymore. I’m sorry to the people it helped

Don't delete your post! You have a right to be proud about your results and there is nothing wrong with what you're doing. You've got amazing grades and all you're trying to do is give help and support to those who were once in the same position as you, because you know how beneficial it is to have this kind of support and guidance during GCSEs. I've seen many useful posts like this, and I think it's important that there are people that are willing to help out... I hope your A Levels are going well!

For starters, you need to ensure that you understand each topic and if not, then go through your classwork, ask your teachers for help and go to maths clinic if your school has it- you can also watch YouTube videos, there are many useful channels/ websites for GCSE maths. Also make sure that you do textbook questions to consolidate your knowledge, then finally do past paper questions.

However doing textbook questions alone is not enough, as past paper questions resemble the style of questions you'll be getting in the actual exam. Doing lots of past paper questions will ensure that you understand each topic and become accustomed to the style of questions they'll be asking you at the end of Y11. I hope this helps!

Yes, I really think you should start revising now. It’s never too early and if you start now I can guarantee that you’ll be less stressed during mocks and exam period. You won’t have to revise as much during that time either meaning you won’t need to stay up revising at night and you’ll be able to go out more.

For Chemistry I did pretty much the same things as Biology: I read my CGP textbook and made sure I understood everything; I then looked for flashcards on PMT for active recall; towards the end most of my revision time was spent doing past papers

Thank you so much for your reply.

Is there a way to import PMT flashcards into quizlet so I can do spaced repetition? This is because it takes a significant amount of time making flashcards based off the specification
