Which Universities are the best for data Science?

There are a number of universities in the UK that are great for Data Science and Computer Science, each offering different specialities and experiences depending on what you're looking for. Many larger universities focus heavily on theory, while others are more practical and industry-focused.

At LSBU, where I’m currently studying Computer Science, what makes it stand out is its focus on practical, hands-on learning alongside core theory. LSBU offers a BSc in Computer Science with Data Engineering and a Postgraduate Data Science course, which gives you a mix of computing fundamentals and in-demand data skills. One of LSBU’s key strengths is that all the courses are BCS-accredited, meaning they meet professional industry standards.

What’s unique about LSBU is its location in central London, which opens doors for work experience, placements, and networking with companies based nearby. Another USP is that LSBU has all its specialist equipment and labs on campus, so students don’t need to travel to other facilities for practical sessions.

On top of that, LSBU has a strong CSI (Computer Science and Informatics) community. You can become a CSI Ambassador, which lets you earn money while gaining experience and helping other students. There are also student societies like SouthHack and regular hackathons organised by the university, giving you chances to work on real-world challenges and meet industry professionals.

Personally, I find the course very interesting, and I’m glad I chose LSBU. It’s not just about lectures; the university focuses on making you job-ready while providing great support and facilities throughout your studies.
