year 11 - my journey

Scroll to see replies

yesterday, I spent a few hours dividing up the topics for all my subjects into chunks and planning on what I'm going to do
English is by far the hardest to revise for and I am honestly so confused about how to revise for it
for sciences and maths I've decided to do lots and lots of past papers and practise questions

so I did another German test, but I didn't do that good

I got 20/32 (it was the 150 word task)

to improve, I'm going to use the sentence builders and write myself model paragraphs to refer to when revising

Do you do have higher and foundation for German cuz in mine we have that for spanish.

Yes, we have higher and foundation in German asw. Idk where I am rn tho, hopefully in higher. The teachers decide in March so if someone is really weak, like a grade 3-4, they can try get that up to a 6 in 4 months and do higher.
So, I watched this academic self improvement video, and they said to write down your thoughts and progress every day in a journal/diary at night. It also said to plan your day for tomorrow so you are more focused on what you want to achieve by the end of it. After watching it, I thought to myself that yes I should do that, and I was reminded of my blog again. I don't write in this blog often, so from tonight I will be doing exactly that. If I miss a day, can someone please remind me, tho I hope that doesn't happen.
In the video it also said to have a fixed sleep schedule, so I aim to sleep at 21:15 and wake up at 5:00 (that's 5 or 6 sleep cycles, I can't remember). I will keep you all updated on how that's going too.

Today I am going to do:
- Writing sample answers to possible German speaking exam questions.
- Doing a timeline for Romeo and Juliet with important quotes. If anyone has nice resources for Romeo and Juliet, do you mind sending them to me, I would really appreciate it!!
- Collate all the results from my last food tech investigation/experiment and plan the write up for section B of NEA1.

(if I still have time after this, I will continue revising the content for an upcoming computing test - NETWORKS IS SOOO BORING, but not as bad as computer systems)

What I have done so far today:
- Learnt the hydraulics chapter and did exam style questions on it.
- German test paper corrections (this took me like 15 mins)

so it is the end of the day and I'll be sleeping in less than an hour. I was able to complete both my English and German work, but just got started with food tech. I have finally finished all the physics content so far, now I can focus on doing exam style questions

Goals for tomorrow:
- Do CGP computer science workbook - finish all the questions in the networks topic
- biology hw
- continue annotating r+j till end of act 2
- business hw and reading the textbook
- Continue with food tech and finish it
Heyyy
Good luck with your mocks xx. I’ve just found your GYG and will follow along your journey 😌.
I completely get your motivation struggles and have recently been trying to write down my goals as well so I can do a decent amount of revision each day for my mocks as well. You can find this on my GYG https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7398188.
Also I find computing boring too 😭 it’s so difficult especially the programming part. What task are you doing for your NEA? I’m doing the biscuit one.

Hey I saw your GYG blog, you are pretty committed to it I must say.
Also, I'm doing bread for the NEA. imo programming wasn't that hard until we got to arrays, functions and subroutines - now I just can't keep up with it

Ye we've started revision now and the arrays and functions are the hardest bit
I found out that waking up early and reading notes didn't work as it made me sleepy. I also found that listening to music while doing questions helps me focus.

Goals for tomorrow:
- COMPLETELY FINISH my food tech course work
- answer computing questions
- get started on poetry anthology revision I don't know how to do this????

Things to work on in general:
- waking up and sleeping on time
- finding a suitable morning routine: I have to constantly battle sleep. Today I was working on my bed, probably not a good way to study.
- find an engaging German podcast to listen to on the way and back from school

I feel like on the theory side of computing i feel like the CPU topic is the hardest

Yh I have memorised this topic 3 times, but I keep forgetting it. Have you guys got a nice way to revise computing theory?

For me I'm breaking it down bit by bit... so I did memory and storage yesterday and just did quizzes and practice questions on Smart revise (I'm not sure if u have it) for 45 min... then I just see which sub-topic I'm weak in (like compression for example) and try to go over it again... then I just did exam questions on that topic... I really hope this would effective for me in the future
Ty, that’s really helpful!

What I did today:
just half my food tech stuff - ARGHSHSHS THERES SO MUCH!!!
i finally joined the KiB meeting and did my first session - it was good? it wasn’t what i expected but it wasn’t a waste of time, i learnt some new things

What i STILL need to do:
- Complete the food tech write up - H
- Complete all the CGP questions on networks topic (computing) H
- Do the computing HW H
- Do all P1 worksheets from my folder (physics) H
- Make flashcards on C6.2 (chem) L
- Revise the flashcards from C4 (chem) L
- Study the poems for English (find good youtube video) M
- Do a practise Language paper 2 section A - the reading section (i call it comprehension ) M
(H/M/L = high/medium/low priority)

^thats my plan for tomorrow morning
(edited 1 month ago)
so i did all my food tech work today and revised the networks topic. TIP - if u want someone to quiz you but they wont, use the new Q-chat option on Quizlet. IT WORKS LIKE MAGIC. i felt like i was talking to a friend who was asking me questions, it’s really good and i didn’t get distracted!

To do:
- physics worksheets
- computing cgp questions
- english poetry poems

i’m thinking of creating a step by step timetable to help me me decide what exactly to do each day in the next week and not get distracted a lot, i will create this tonight and post it up.
so it has been 4 days since I last posted, sorry I just got busy.

test scores so far:
78% in bio (one of the harder topics)
80% in maths (it was a unit test with mostly grade 6 and 7 questions)
19/20 in a "surprise test" cs test but I alr knew most of the questions bc my friends told me

I have done a physics and computing test and will get my marks soon.

So as we can see, I'm off to a rocky start to this half term.

On the slightly good side though:
I have gotten into routine at waking up early and sleeping early - I get an hour before school to revise.

mocks are in 22 schools days - not a long time left now!!!!

I STILL NEED TO STUDY THE ENTIRE POETRY ANTHOLOGY!!!
