Seeking Advice on Choosing a University for Computer Science

Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of applying to universities to pursue a degree in Computer Science, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the choices available. I was hoping to get some advice and insights from the knowledgeable community here.

How important is the choice of university when it comes to pursuing a Computer Science degree? Are there specific universities known for their strong Computer Science programs?

What factors should I consider when making my decision? I'm thinking about location, course content, reputation, and job prospects after graduation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, and I look forward to hearing from you all.
I think that the actual university is way less important than the modules the course contains (and if they sound interesting to you) and also the work experience opportunities on the course. I think building up your CV will make you a better candidate for employment, so I would strongly consider doing the work placement year. Places of work will prefer the level of degree you get rather than where you went to.
I think (although don't quote me!) That CS degrees from more 'prestigious' unis tend to be more theoretical and more mathematical, if that is your thing.

Sites like this will tell you something about the student feedback experience on the courses: https://www.theuniguide.co.uk/search/course?c%5Bacademic_years%5D=2023&c%5Bq%5D=computer

Sites like this will give you an idea of ranking (but take it with a big pinch of salt) https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings/computer-science

And also consider what type of town/city/rural/campus experience you might like. Go on open days to get a feel for some of the places. Good luck!
