Applying for a masters in research

Hi, I am currently in the process of applying for a master's in research in ecology. When I email potential supervisors should I be saying that I want to do a project in this particular area and I have some ideas if they would be open to a discussion, or should I propose a specific project (e.g. insect ecology in urban areas of Sheffield)? I don't want to put them off by being to forthcoming!

Hey!

I would say email potential supervisors in your subject area with your specific idea! I don’t think they would be put off by you being forthcoming, I think they’d rather you had a good idea as it shows your interest and that you’re self motivated! You could always say you’re open to adjustments etc. if you’re worried

Best of luck with everything!
